Straight pipe on diesel
Posted by Chad504boy on 5/8/13 at 10:08 pm00
How much would that alone improve mpg's?

What model of diesel engine? Mine might have got 1 mpg better, maybe.

Depends on what engine and year. Other upgrades and programming may be necessary.

Didn't help mine much when I did it on my Dodge. Although I kept the cat and just took the muffler off.

2 or 3 mpg with straight pipe and H&S mini maxx on a 2008 dodge mega cab is what I got.

I basically went from 12 to 24.5 with a programmer, straight pipe, and intake
Damn gubment

Left mine stocked. Still getting 22.5 if I drive 45 or 85. Besides, I hate all the noise.

There is no magic that will give you miraculous gains...you will see a decent increase if you remove most all emissions...
But if you are only gonna straight pipe it, its not worth all that extra noise...
I didn't like the noise my MBRP Exhaust was making, so I put a Corsa diesel tuned muffler on it...you hardly hear it until you roll on the throttle...no drone either...
You want good mpgs? Put a block of wood under the go pedal...

If you have dpfe on it you will get no improvement if you remove the dpfe without a programmer chance of ruining the motor. If it runs on that urea crap keep it stock or you will be out of a truck. I do this shite for a living.

THIS
The skinny pedal directly controls how much fuel you burn.

What kind of truck are we talking about?
re: Straight pipe on dieselPosted by DownshiftAndFloorIt on 5/9/13 at 10:32 am to Chad504boy
Use the skinny pedal less.
You'll get some good gains if you de-EPA the whole engine, but otherwise the best improvement you'll see is using less throttle.
