Thank God for cowboy boots, Wrangler jeans and glancing blows. I was out looking at a piece of property that caught my eye and put my foot down on this guy. I stepped on him close to his head apparently, so when he struck he wasn't able to reach up over my boots to get my leg. Felt like I got hit with a baseball in the side of my leg. Didn't penetrate my boots, although you could see the venom on my pants. Dad quickly got a piece of rebar and nailed him on the head and then speared him with it.

Copperhead. Little over 5' long.

Yep, biggest I ever saw was around 30". Usually fairly small.

That's the biggest I've seen. And after painting timber lines every summer for five years, I've seen a lot.

My first thought was it was a rattler due to its size. The realtor that was with us stepped all over it. Better it was I then him. He had on penny loafers. He'd have had a bad day. All I had to do was change my undies and dip an entire can of Copenhagen to recover

Dad said hes only seen one other copperhead that size. And that's possibly my pops greatest hoist

Damn you are lucky! Glad that bad boy didn't get to you. You'd still be in intensive care.

I only kill Cottonmouths on sight. Are Copperheads aggressive like Cottonmouths - or - do they want to be just left alone like Rattlesnakes?
