I went ahead and bit the bullet to get the starlink quicker with their Best Effort service....I cant wait till mid-2023 for reliable internet.

Anyway, it shipped the same day and it was on my front porch 3 days later.

Does anyone have any experience with this service? Is it much worse than regular residential?

They said it would automatically update when residential was available in my area.

Also, I currently use HughesNet but we destroy the data cap when someone comes over with a phone turned on the wifi and they look at tiktok or something. So its got to be a better alternative right? TIA

Ours has been better than anything else we used prior for satellite internet service.

I don't know about the "Best effort" stuff, but we got the Beta service as soon as it was available at our house. It's better than other rural options, but it's far from great. Or, at least for us. Speeds varied from 20 to about 100 mbps most days. We probably averaged 60. And weather does affect it, no matter what they say. Heavy rains would knock it out completely.

Thankfully, xfinity just ran lines to our neighborhood. Don't get me wrong, I was very happy to get Starlink when we got it. It was a definite improvement. I could watch TV most of the time without lagging, but it's not comparable to true high speed internet.

Having a CLEAR view of the sky is very important. I put our dish on top of my detached garage.

*EDIT to say, I think this came across more negative than I meant it. If you're dealing with something like Hughes Net or just cell towers now, Starlink is a big improvement. If the "best effort" plan is the same as what they called their Beta a couple of years ago, we never experienced any outages except maybe a few times for very short periods.

I did the same, speeds blew away what I'd been getting with Century, but I'm having some interruptions.

I don't have a clear enough sky (like 25% obstructed) so I don't know whats causing the interruptions, the view, or the Best Effort.

I'm going to try to re-position my receiver and cancel Centurylink anyway.

Works great for me. I used the app to find the best place to put it and actually bought another 75 ft of cable from them to get to spot that the app said was a great spot.

It buffers a little bit during a storm but is MUCH better than Dish when it comes to handling bad weather.

My speeds are generally around 100mps. I checked during a storm and it was down to like 30. I am told streaming TV is good down to 15-20.

I have the regular home dish---not the RV version.

its best effort because they throttle you to give to the residential and RV clients...until your area is serviced.

I'm on the list as well and considering the best effort service? I could deal with the 100 MB vs my 10-12 cellular currently. What is your location?

Used ours at the lease down south of junction and I was amazed at how well it worked. We had four baws with cellphones hooked up and also streamed college football on a roku

No buffering or issues whatsoever.

That whole area is a black hole. As soon as I turn off 61, any cellular service disappears. This is around red lick...

yeah the closest towers are the prison and way down 563 near crosby and then in Woodville....its literally in the middle of 3 towers....yet cant catch one well because of the hills and trees.

That being said, I bought at $350 cell extender antenna and can now catch 1-2 bars around my kitchen

I have had the Rv service for about a year now in Claiborne county where we don't have anything available.

WE LOVE IT. We stream the LSU football games, movies, have had two on zoom meetings and streamed a movie at the same time. I do have mine on my roof of my camp but it works extremely well.

I just checked their site and don't see this option?
I'd be interested in getting it if available

I think they only offer it to people that have paid the deposit and have had their expected service date delayed several times.
