I just bought 3 traps from harbor freight and gonna try them out. I aint gonna have no heart though and plan on dispatching them and eating them instead of them eating all my pecans they already feeding on the baby ones. May borrow my neighbors pellet gun and try that till the traps come in. If I gass em with jeep exaust they should be still good to eat right I aint gonna do it long and aint eating innards anyway what you baws think. This is the trap I ordered squirrel trap;

I have no idea as to whether killing them with exhaust would make them unsafe to eat. However, the "innards" comment doesn't capture the issue. Gas gets into the blood via the lungs. To avoid whatever might get into the blood, you will need to avoid all the parts that blood flows through. I'll leave that for you to figure out.

As to the idea of killing animals via suffocation, please be a little more humane kill them a little more quickly, like a pellet or bullet to the head.

Get the pellet gun or .22 etc. put out some corn on the cob on a tree or a stand in a safe to shoot location. After a week or so of paying attention in the mornings and evening you should not have much of a squirrel problem. Also don’t shoot them while they are directly on the corn cobs the next ones won’t like the blood. Catch them in the grass.

Your pellet gun wore out 50 years ago? You don’t own a 22 or any firearm that could help you put a trapped animal out of its misery faster than half arse asphyxiating it with exhaust fumes? Come on man.

This is the best option, silent and no worrying about collateral damage from shooting. It is very quick.

Also a squirrel live trap will likely fit in an ice chest.

I shoot squirrels around the house with a Gamco .177 I got off Amazon for like $80.

The squirrel population has been devastated by the Corna Virus quarantine #PewPew

My FIL kept a trash can full of water to submerge the trap in order to dispatch the rats with fluffy tails.

The squirrels in my neighborhood have taken a hit during the quarantine. Number 47 went down yesterday and new ones show up in my yard daily. Where do these things keep coming from? Not sure I can win this war to keep them from chewing on my house and out of the garden.

They don’t. Spring season opened last weekend. None of the ones we killed had any.

To the OP.. Cap them in the head, most humane way.

The AC guy was out a few months back. He saw my squirrel trap and we started talking.... Told me he used to take the whole cage and stick it in a wash tub full of water. It's pretty easy and effective.

Edit: I see someone beat me to it.

Your trap looks pretty flimsy. I trap them with a 12" Pied Piper trap. Very well made.

Also, a 0.177 Gamo Silver Shadow is lethal at 40 Yards.
