May know some of these folks. We used to have a hunting club down the road from us called “Stomphead Lodge” and that was a mount on their sign.

For eating I'll take a limit of spoonies over mallards and pintails every day.

Oh I would. I’d gladly take 6 spoonbills in a heartbeat.

Funny you say that and I'm sure some will argue. A club in SW La I know of mostly serves spoonbills to overnight clients. Often those customers are at the table absolutely crushing them on the plate while having a conversation of how they don't shoot them, dont eat them, won't even look at them, etc. etc.

The mount is funny, but stomping them......ehhhh not so much.

We kill mostly teal, but spoonies are usually a close second. And when we are splitting up the ducks, I always try to take half teal, half spoonies. Their are my two favorite eating ducks. Hell, I even think a drake northern shoveler is a beautiful bird. That damned beak is ugly, but the bird itself has some beautiful color. I think they just get a bad rap because they seem to be much dumber than other ducks when it comes to them being much easier to decoy.
