Spillway fishing this week -henderson area

I am off this week. With the COVID stuff we canceled our vacation to New Mexico. Looking to bring my son out to the spillway to fish to catch some bass and slabs. Hoping the weather cooperates. I have never fished the Spillway. Any tips on best place to put in and best to fish south or North?

The spillway isn’t one of the places you can just say “yeah go here”. Been fishing it my whole life. Those fish move around with a lot of factors being to where they end up. Main thing is look for moving water that is clean, but not black. Grass beds, cuts, etc as well. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t do well on the first trip.

I’ve always kind of found Henderson a harder place to fish. I know a few run outs that I can catch a few fish out of in the right conditions but mostly if I’m catching fish in Henderson, I’m just getting lucky. I only bass fish though, so I can’t help with the sacs. I did catch the bass on a red crawfish bandit crankbait the other day. So you may want to tie one on.

Nicer scaliat back of Mondu lake you have ballpark and other area.
Go through woods back of Mondu lake to find it.
Try brush island side.
Good people at Old river landing

Rest In Peace disco Donny or the dude who was in wheel chair that played disco on his boom box.
FYI, when the Miss River guage BTR 27ft usually the first drop in March or April it white bass time. They school up all over the place and it is fun.
Learn spillway
This might help.
In 1977 there was an old man who could not go fishing alone due to his health.
He bought me an Abu Garcia reel with a pistol grip browning rod. He showed me the spillway and how to fish it. Really cut my learning curve down a lot.
These are good books to start.

a lot of bream, chinquapin and sac a lait have been being taken in the flats fishing with crickets, worms and crappie jigs...
water is dropping (finally) and the flats won't have much water on them come this weekend unless this rain holds it up...
bass have been hit or miss but seem to be staging off of subtle points and cuts where the water is falling off the flats...
there was a good bit of floating salvania but not a problem to get around...
the ridges (lines of willow trees) that have been underwater are showing up as the water falls...those areas are good for panfishing...
I've been catching bass on top water at daylight and plastics once the sun gets up but not much of that the last few days with the overcast and rain...

So I know where the 21" Pipeline Canal is, but I cannot find where the 16" Canal is on a Map, would "Between 21" and 16"" be the book that best encompasses the spillway area near Pierre Part?

Ramah launch and Butte Larose launch (I10) have been packed with vehicles every morning. They're either catching fish or someone opened a strip club in the swamp and is giving away free beer.
I haven't seen that many cars/boats/trlrs on a weekday in a long time.

UPDATE...
Went to Henderson yesterday...
put in under I-10...not many there when I put in but a pile when I took out at 10am...
hit a few spots and found a good SSE wind pushing through the cuts from the flats into the channels running through them...
ended up catching 15 nice bass...(kept 6 for a meal all others released)
majority of the people out were chasing bream and sac-a-lait...saw a lot of chinkapin and goggle eye being caught as well...crickets, jigs and shiners seemed to be the main bait they were using...
was off the water ~10am...

Same here. Went last Tuesday. Fished mainly for bass. Caught 3 only one decent (3lbs). May go back Friday and leave the bass gear at the house. Ordered some Bayou Booger shad. There were 2 guys slaying the sacs near me they were fishing with a wasp looking jig. I forgot to ask what it was called. Anyone got a clue?
