South Farm Crawfish Report

Went today with my 12 yr old godson/nephew, caught about 3/4 of a sack from 8am to 1pm.
We wasted about an hour and a half at the first spot. Initial run looked good so we put out all the set nets (I'm down to 16 at this point from losing 1 every time I go) and then had to pick them up after 2-3 runs because all the crawfish dried up. Hoofed it all the way to the back (with only a red-rider wagon) and managed to get on them o.k. and pick up enough for dinner with the rest of the family. Cheers to the dude that gave us a ride out on his 4-wheeler.
Topped it off by driving down the levee a ways to some state land and he bagged his first airborne clay pigeons with his .410 pump. Now just waiting for dinner time to get the burner fired up. Great way to spend a day off.

Thanks for the update.
I'm planning to go Monday and limit out.
It should take all day but it's totally worth it.

We didn't have any problems peeling them.

I caught 48lbs last Sunday. Some were hard to peal.

Went yesterday, fished from 8 until 1230 because my cart broke.
Didn't really catch until 10 am.
Two and a half hours, netted 30#.
Fishing was tough. High water, very clear.
Had to find shallow water, which there isn't much.
Also, a big screw you to the fat guy on the ATV who was well behind the NO ATV sign.
You had the nerve to drive in behind the sign, comment on my broken cart and didn't offer me a ride back to the front.
Screw you lardass.

Yep.
There are rules for a reason.
People who believe they are above the law are a bunch of self entitled pricks.
And fat.
Jesus, I probably just hate fat people.
Maybe I need some anger management.

I am all for going out to have fun, but with the current cost of crawfish, gas and bait definitely cheaper to buy...

Agreed.
I go out there for the fun.
The moment I stop enjoying the place, I leave.

yeah it's definitely not a money making enterprise. neither is any of my hunting and fishing though, and i do it on the cheap, too.
even on a single trip basis, the only ones that i think i've had that i got more meat out of than i could get at the store for the same money was a couple tuna trips and deer hunting.

Used to all belong to my grandpa
Had some good times growing up out there. I haven't been there in 15 years at least. I still have the layout stuck in my mind they way it used to be. I kinda don't want to see how different it is.

He sold it in like 95 or 96. We never did much duck hunting but I know they did kill some. He mostly farmed soybeans and corn on it and had crawfish on the side. Had a fine little camp not far from where the shop is. I think that shop is still standing. Used to kill loads of deer, coon and gators and caught plenty frogs.
ETA: I was either 7 or 8 when he sold it so I don't have nearly as many memories as I'd like.

I'm guessing you're from Livonia area. Hunted the place a couple times before public had access to it, buddy had a key from a the farmer that owned the stuff between property and levee. It was ugly.

Right down the road. I was looking at some old pics from it a couple months ago. Damn I miss that place.

Yes and a few more. Been a long time speaking to your family members. I just don't get out often anymore.
