She was a 18 year old two-stroke smoker. RIP.

I'm looking to buy one 200 horsepower.Either a Evinrude E-Tec or the Yamaha SHO.

Any other good models I should look at?

I don't know whether to get a new one or get a used one only a couple years old. Thanks fellas

If looking new, you may as well look at the new Mercury 4 strokes. When looking at the Evinrude, you thinking the big block or small block 200?

I really don't know about the etec big block or small block I'll have to check it out. I used to know a little about the old etec Motors in the H.O model
I'm looking for 20 inch shaft.

I have no idea what the current deals are but I repowered two years ago to an Etech the reason was I got three extra years on an Etech warranty than an SHO. Tech was also a bit cheaper at the time that is two years ago however....

I don’t know if they still are, but earlier this year E-tec had a 10 year warranty on them. That would be the kicker for me!

I'll second this; I'm on my 2nd Merc 4 stroke....first one a 60 HP and now a 150 HP....no problems with either.

Both are solid motors so quality Service is your next question. Merc 4 Pro xs are 25+ weeks out on delivery and I have been told that’s optimistic, Yamaha is double that for the 4-6 blocks I am told. What Boat, water?

Repowered my progator bassboat with an Evinrude Etec G2. I then sold my boat to my nephew’s step son. I wanted to get him a nice boat he could fish his college bass tournaments, that was in good shape, and would be trouble free for a few years.

The main reasons why I bought it.
- 10 yr warranty
- the dealer that sold me the engine 5 miles from my nephew’s step sons house
- Dealer gave me great service on my past evinrude engines going back to my omc evinrude engines.
- His turnaround time is fast during peak season

I think it's down to 8 years at the moment. Still damn good. No break in period and no required service for the first 500 hours.

spend the extra and just get new motor and new warranty if you plan on keeping the boat long.

Then buy from local dealer you like and trust who has a good service Dept.

Can't go wrong w Yamaha or Suzuki 200.

New Merc supposed to be the real deal, but still too new.

Go with a SHO or a Merc. stay away from the Etec. Hearing better things about the Gen3's but still have to hook them up to diagnostic machine for EVERY alarm to clear. That gets expensive and a pain.

To play devil’s advocate, I’m not a big fan of huge extended warranties because the company has to offer them for a reason and that reason is they have a history of breaking down. Just because it’s free to fix doesnt mean you can still go fishing, you still have to get it to the dealer and what not.

I’m simply saying I’d prefer a motor I trust than something else with a bigger warranty. Companies like Toyota, Honda, Stihl, Yamaha, etc. rarely have the best warranties because they don’t have to.

True, Zuks 3+3 was Zuk first 3 and 3rd party second 3. I believe the E-tec was all BRP and not a 3rd party warranty.

You should take some time and properly mourn her before you go out and buy the latest and greatest replacement.

I would repower with a Yamaha all things being equal. But if there is not a service dealer near by I would look at whichever has one closest. I think all manufacturers are making good products right now.
