I’m leaning towards some kind of racer (black/blue) by his length, not very thick and the way he seems to be holding his head well up off the ground which is usually a good “tell” for a racer

A rat snake has a tendency to kink up it’s body when disturbed, which this one isn’t doing

Saw a racer at the camp at Toledo Bend this past weekend. It was just tooling along in the yard in front of the deck minding its own business and my 17 yo athlete son (very fast) took off after it. That sucker shifted gears and my son couldn't keep up with it. About 20 yd later it hit the woods and was gone. My kid couldn't believe it. I told him he should be glad he didn't catch up with it, those suckers are mean and will bite the crap out of you. It was really big too, at least 6' long.

It’s long like a non-cottonmouth but the head looks like a cottonmouth to me but picture is not the greatest (at least on my phone) so i could be wrong.

Yeah not a good pic but my first thought was racer. They're a really cool snake.

If you zoom in then the head has the distinct shape of danger

Where was this picture taken?

When I zoom in, it APPEARS to have bands or markings that would mean it is not a racer. Looks to be a ditch or some sort of bank at the top right so I would lean towards a water snake but the photo is just not clear enough.

If it's in Missouri, it's a western rat snake (Pantherophis obsoletus).
