Snake ID
I have always called snakes like this rat snakes or chicken snakes and really don't know the true name. What says the Outdoor board?

re: Snake ID
No water around. Just in my yard. There is no pond within a mile. Guess it doesn't matter.

Looks to me like a Plain Bellied Water Snake

We have them all over Oklahoma. Often misidentified as a Cottonmouth. Completely harmless, however.

Depends on your location, but it is a harmless water snake in the Nerodia genus.

I would guess that they bite if the situation calls for it.

re: Snake ID
Plain bellied water snake for sure. Completely harmless and primarily feed on fish and frogs.
