Smaller than the picture makes it look I’m told.

Killed in one of my company’s offices.

Thanks. They are all freaking out saying they are ground rattlers but I didn’t see that.

Tell the women it was a cotton mouth and you need to properly dispose of it. should take about 2-3 hours...

Tell them the truth, that it's a rat snake. Then let them know it is in there because apparently there is a decent supply of it's favorite food. Then enjoy the rest of the show.

I picked up a hose this week and exposed a small rat snake.

I said "Whoa"....then watched it slither off.

That's actually a juvenile racer. Whichever species you have in your area - black, buttermilk, whatever.

But still just as harmless as a rat snake.

That's why you need a foot in the pic!

I think you might be right. The juvenile black racers are spotted like that. The Texas rat snake has a diamond pattern unless it's a different species.

Hey Teague...what's been your latest falconry project? Any new birds?

I've kind of half-assed it the past couple of years. I'm still debating what, if anything, I'll do this year. Most likely, I'll trap a new red tail at some point and chase bunnies and squirrels.

The second I saw the pic I knew everyone would mistake this for a rat snake.

Agreed. It’s amazing how different babies can look compared to adults.

I hatched some black-masked racers years ago. Found 18 eggs under a log and took them home. Hatched 14 of the 18 successfully.
