I am looking for a good shotgun. Wanting to keep it under $1500 or around there. Will be used mostly for sporting clay shooting and a little for dove hunting. I have looked a little at the Beretta A400 xtreme and Remington Versa Max but open to anything at this point.

I have a versamax that gets shot allot. Prob between 2 and 3k rounds per year, give or take, for the past 4 years. Shoots very soft, cycles everything and never misses a beat.
It is a tad on the heavy side when compared to some of the populat iniertia guns, but a solid choice.

Beretta Xtreme Realtree pattern is a fine looking gun but I'd spend less and go with the A350 Xtrema.

Also, Winchester SX3/4 ftw.

For what you're looking to do with it, any shotgun should do. It sounds like your gun won't get dirty or be subjected to harsh environments. Either of the guns you listed will last a lifetime if you're just shooting clays and occasionally dove hunting. If you needed something that will stand up to the shittiest conditions while duck hunting and never let you down, I'd say get a benelli.

Maxus, love mine.

But get the 3" chamber or the gas piston won't cycle the really light trap loads.

Benelli Montefeltro gets my vote. Around $1000 with the proven Benelli action, 3” chamber, and some good looking wood.

This right here. I have one with 26” barrels and in 12 gauge. It’s by far my favorite shotgun.

As far as auto loaders, I’ve owned/own the following:

Benelli Córdoba, Legacy, and Ethos.
Browning Maxus and Gold.
Remington 1187 and 105 CTi.
Beretta 391.

The Córdoba and Maxus are 1 and 2 on my list of favorites.

I’ve heard good things about the new Remington’s but after that 105 CTi, Remington will never get another dollar from me.

Also, Winchester SX3

I've had mine for a while and it shoot circles around most guns I've shot against (it may be the shooter)...
and NEVER jams no matter what size shells I happen to be shooting...
I put a 2 3/4" a 3" and a 3 1/" and shot as fast as I could pull the trigger and it didn't miss a lick...

Maxus and SX3 have the same gas operated system under the hood. My 3-1/2" Maxus WILL fail to eject about 25% of the time if shooting trap loads less than 1oz.
