Since last season (I know, I'm a slacker). First shot, I bumped my release...

Smacked myself in the face, busted my lip and lost an arrow.

Thank God no one saw me! Got progressively better after that

Damn, but I did chuckle. Just saying.

How exactly did you accomplish that, the string caught you in the face when you released?

So far the worst I've encountered is the sting on the arm. Quite unpleasant.

I usually place my index finger behind the release trigger to avoid accidentally firing but I was a little rusty today. While I was pulling the bow string back I accidentally disengaged the release while my hand was in front of my face (about half way back to my anchor point). It was a thing to behold!

ETA: It wasn't the bow string that hit me, I actually punched myself in the face.

Good thing there was an arrow on it so you didn't dry fire it.

Finger behind the trigger on the draw captain.

oh...I've done that twice when I first started shooting the bow...the first time the arrow got stuck in a tree about eye level, the second time I had to max out an extension ladder to get it 25 feet up in the same tree, but I didn't hit myself in the face. I haven't let it happen again

First time I've ever done that. You better believe I won't do it again

You need a release with a safety

Ive had some pretty nasty bruises on my forearm from torqing the bow after my ARM had gotten tired but nothing this bad.

I used to get slapped before I changed my grip. I no longer worry about open hand. I grip to where my pointer and ring finger tips barely make contact with the riser. Since doing that, I've not been touched by the string once.

IDK, punching yourself in the face is about as embarassing as you can get.
