Just towed my 2013, 1500 serria to the shop today. Pretty sure it’s going to cost me a new transmission. It only have 80k miles, (mainly drive a company vehicle) I planed on driving it till the wheels fall off but this is very discouraging. I take care of it but it pulls various trailers almost every time I drive it. What’s yall say, should I fix and sell or keep it? I can afford a new vehicle but would rather hold on to the money.

Your truck is 7 years old with less than 100k miles...you and I have very different definitions of old truck.

I have a 8 yr old truck with 300k miles, and I’ll pay to replace just about anything but a full engine. So far I’ve changed the oil and brakes. The problem is new trucks cost a shaft and a ball.

Good chance you can replace the transmission at a cost no more than the tax you’d have to pay for a new vehicle. I’ve heard the owner shop I use in BR (AgCo Automotve) say they can can rebuild, in house, the transmission in certain GM trucks to higher standards (more robust replacement parts) for certain model years and transmission years -but not sure what years and transmissions those are, though they usually use remanufactured GMC transmissions.

Put a new GM transmission in it and keep it.

From a financial standpoint a new vehicle never makes sense. You'd have to blow a transmission/engine on that truck every 18 months to come out ahead paying a note.

If you leave the money part out of it, it sure is nice to jump in a new truck and drive to Colorado without worrying about it.

Years ago I had them rebuild a tranny on a Chevy 1500 and later they replaced a tranny on another Chevy truck with a remanufactured one. At he time the remanufactured had a better warranty than the new one. I never had an issue with either one.

My 2011F150 with 120k had about 40% compression in a cylinder last yr....engine was shot.....replaced the engine with a Ford certified refurbished 5.0 coyote with 60k miles for $5k

Runs fine at 200k miles now

Much cheaper than a new truck

This. Also how heavy of trailers are you pulling?

I don’t smoke nor drink. I do occasionally buy a new vehicle. That’s my treat to myself. I’d fix the transmission then sell it. Nothing like a new truck. You did mention that you could afford it.

I had to rebuild a trans on a 96 Suburban 1500 at 110k-ish. Cost me $800 and was a no-brainer.

If your engine is in good shape, I'd go for it. Should be a solid truck for a long time.

I sold the Suburban at 240k miles, the Air had been out for a few years and that was going to be costly.

Fix it and keep it. To entice myself to keep my paid-for truck I upgrade things from time to time. Upgraded Kenwood radio with CarPlay. Center console safe. Put a little money into it to make yourself feel like you're not missing out on the latest. It's definitely worth it.

Easy answer... Fix it and keep it

You know the truck and it's needs at this time. You probably trust the truck to take you anywhere you would like to go...Insurance is lower than a new one...

Bite the bullet and get it fixed, you will not regret it.

Fix it.

Look at the cost as several new truck payments.

having a broken tranny rebuilt like new again only cost around $3k total, fix it and keep it

new trucks start at $45k now so its a no brainer to keep yours

Utility trailer with atv and random hunting crap
18’ aluminum CC boat, IMO truck should be able to both fine no problem and does.
9,000lb plus camper but that’s rare and never more than a 2 hour drive.
Transmission has never overheated.
