Several broad questions are soon to follow so bear with me here.

My "home" trout waters are 4.5 hours away...I've got some closer water but none that I'm confident in. I usually end up with 2-3 fish when I go to Biloxi and it makes more sense to me to drive an extra hour and fish the marsh. Well I'm about tired of reading the weekend results thread every week and seeing boats full of specks and reds, and I want in on the action

I've sort of zeroed in on Delacroix because I've read good fishing reports over the years from that area, and it's 2 hours and 12 minutes from my driveway per google.

First off, I'll be limited in mobility/range because I'll be in a kayak. So I guess my first question is, is this area going to be kayak friendly- can I drop a yak in somewhere and be within a mile or two paddle of good fishing. If not, is there a better spot for me to hone in on within an hour or so of there. I'd like to keep my one way distance within 3 hours (west hattiesburg, MS) but that's not a hard line.

Should add this this trip will likely be late June/early July. I'm going to the keys next weekend and will be there for 8 days, so that will (hopefully?) give me time to get my out of state license in the mail and aim for a Saturday in the marsh around that timeline

as always, any advice or suggestions is appreciated. Just trying to get on some redfish or specks. Not looking for anyones honey hole, just a nudge in the right direction

Trout in July out of a yak in Delacroix is going to be nearly impossible, they will all be outside in black bay etc by then. You'd be better targeting Reds on that area or just renting a cabin in Grand Isle and trying your luck there. If you can wait till September-November you can catch trout inside in Delacroix

That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. A day trip to grand Isle isn't out of the question

Reds will be easy to catch out of the yak in delacroix. Won't have to run further than 2 miles in any direction. Head out early because the heat and sun will wear you out. Grass should be really thick and water clear. Like others said, trout will be nonexistent. Can also catch bass out there.

Launch at Sweetwater, head southeast for a bit. Start off with gold spoons, finish with gold spoons. You'll catch redfish and bass in and around the numerous grass mats you'll see.

You won't be able to buy a trout inside that time of year.

I know this does not help now, but in fall after 2-3 cool fonts come through, You can catch trout 10 minutes from the launch in a kayak. Actually we catch trout, reds and bass. My buddy caught a huge bluegill last year on a live shrimp. We launch at Reggio Marina. Its $10.00 to launch. The main canal you launch in is fairly deep and will hold trout during the fall. Check it out on a map. There are plenty places to fish within a mile from the launch. There are no amenities at the launch, so get what you need before you get there. There is a bait shop on your way out there. Bait Inc. 2101 Paris Rd. Live shrimp and anything else you may need. Hope this helps you at some point.

Not the one immediately along the road. The one beneath it, and the one beneath that one too.

You can also launch on the side of the road a little north of sweet water and go into lake Leary. Very easy paddle and the grass beds hold plenty of reds and green trout. Look at google earth and there are a couple of mouths that go from bayou terre aux beoufs to the east side of Leary.

Thanks for the responses guys. Looking forward to some fall trips now. Think I'll head to grand Isle in a few weeks and try my luck there
