My kids little single shot has a Burris fast fire on it. That little thing is fun a hell.

It is hard the comprehend what that 22lr costs.

You can definitely spend some stupid money on a simple 22. Mine is over 2400. The only part Ruger made on my current rifle is the receiver.

There is a massive aftermarket.

Vortex Diamondback on my 10/22. Last time I took it out I was shooting out the center of a bullseye at 100yds. It might be my favorite rifle.

I have a CZ 452 bolt action that has nearly perfect balance and great iron sights and mounted a scope on it and hated it. Also have a Ruger 10/22 semi-auto carbine that a scope works great on.

So how is that working out for you??

I haven’t gone squirrel hunting since I added the peep.
Ida kinda screwed a lot of the plans for this season.
It’s VERY fun to target shoot though.

No scope that .22
One rifle should never have a scope:. 30-30 lever action. Clint Eastwood and John Wayne didn't need a scope.

Need an illuminated Christmas tree reticle on the first focal plane, never know when the squirrel of a life time might come out right at dusk @479 yards with a strong cross wind blowing, thank me later

I made the mistake of not getting adj. objective for my .17. Close shots sucked hard, so I replaced it.

You owe a clean shot to the animals that you kill.

Scope up.

Remember those single shot bolt actions with that knob you pulled back to cock it ?

Yep. My late father found one in an old lady’s garage about 12 years ago that was rusted to shite. He sanded everything he could and re-blued it and refinished the wood then gave it to my son for his 5th birthday.

The gun has no markings of a manufacturer and no serial number. My dad stamped his driver’s license number on it as the serial number.

My son will always cherish that gun as his first.

I think they were stevens/sears rifles.
I have one somewhere around here, I lost the little 5 round metal magazine and can’t find a new one that fits

My dad said after WW2 there were lots of companies that made them. I think he said they were called “boys guns”. The one we have is a little single shot. It’s a cool looking little gun.

It is all preference. But try shooting deer from a stand with a 3030 without a scope. But I agree I'd like to have another one without a scope or a smaller caliber marlin lever to play with without a scope. I never hunted squirrels with my .17 as the ammo was more than .22 and 20 gauge and .410 that I had plenty of light loads laying around. I am a bit worried about shooting a .17 up in the air because I have heard they shoot pretty fast and far but I haven't messed with it much except to sight it in.

ETA: if you wanna eat the squirrel brains I guess you are right. I guess shoot it in the same area as you would a deer then. My sister has an albino squirrel in their back yard but they live in a neighborhood and I'm really tempted to bring my old gamo pellet gun and get that sucker and mount it.

My eyes aren’t what they used to be. Iron sights are pretty useless for me past 25 yards. Got a 4x luepy on my ruger bolt 22, love it.

Scope it if you want to! Bought a Marlin 25N about 30 years ago and put a little scope on it. Tack driver to 50 yds, which is all I need to do with it. Better scope and ammunition would probably make a significant difference but the current setup works fine for my purposes.
