Is it considered yuppie or otherwise shameful to put a scope on a 22 bolt action instead of using iron sights for skwull and whatnot?

I have an illuminated reticle LPVO on my suppressed 10/22. I don't want the squirrels to know there's an enemy sniper in their midst.

Haters gonna hate.

I mean people are serious about squirrel hunting in these parts and either use a .22, a .410 or 20 gauge. Idk anyone who hunts with a .22 and doesn't have a scope.

I have a scope on my .17 and eventually will get a 10/22 and put a scope on it. Although I prefer a .410 break barrel for squirrel. But to answer your question, do you want pellets In your squirrels or rabbits if you can help it? A head shot on a squirrel makes eating it easier. No shame in my game.

Say jack, I think you been watchin' too much Duck Dummies using terms like that.

I just finished building a dedicated 22lr and mounted a compact 3-9x40 AR so I can double tap tree rats. Head shots preserve the meat.

Not much reason to use iron sites on anything these days.

Yep those things could be dangerous. Back in 1967 we were squirrel hunting and a friend of mine who’s was. 16 years old at the time fell. He had a single shot like you described and the gun hit just right on a rock and he was shot through the arm and went into his stomach. We were way back in the woods but got him to the hospital where he went through about a six hour surgery. He survived and later serve the country in the United States Marines with a lot of surgery scars.

If you go scopeless a peep is a game changer.
I had a scope in my Marlin 39A Mountie for a long time. Last year I took it off in favor of a peep sight. I’m not a serious squirrel hunter anymore, some years I don’t hunt them at all.

I'm about to pick up a precision 22lr and plan to mount the biggest scope I can find on it. I'd like to stick 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Is this wrong?

Not at all. A guy in at my camp has a volquartsen, surpressed, topped with a swarovski. It is hard the comprehend what that 22lr costs. Cool gun, regardless.
