Some snakes qualify as beautiful, despite popular belief. However, this type of snake is just evil looking, man.

I guess "beautiful" wasn't the right description. "Badass" is more apt.

I went take a piss on the bayou bank yesterday and one slivered out the grass. He was gone before I could draw the judge so I dumped a cylinder in the general area. Had to let ‘em know.

Son was eye level with a snake in a bush walking out of the woods this morning.

Nah bruh. They stink, they're assholes, they look like the devil, they stink, they're too fat, snakes aren't supposed to float, they stink

I hate those nasty bastards. Our place is absolutely infested with them. I could go find 2 dozen of them in a half a mile on the right day.

Such a myth. They only stink when they musk - and even when caught, they rarely musk. Only 2 or 3 out of 50+ I’ve caught in the past 2 years have musked. And they are defensive but docile. They rarely strike even when caught.

I'm not sure where your cottonmouths are, but ours definitely stink.

The people that think they stink are the folks that are afraid of them and bash them with sticks, which, in turn causes them to release musk. So, it's pretty telling when someone says "cottonmouths stink." It's the same sort of person that gets "chased" by them or thinks they're aggressive. For some reason, a cottonmouth has never chased a single herpetologist or any other person that isn't afraid of them. A scared person is a terrible witness.

Not much to document afterwards. It stayed in that position the entire time, and I walked away. Was still in the same position when I walked back by about 30 min later, then slowly slithered into the brush.

Coon hunt in the swamp all the time in the summer and see/smell hundreds of them in a year.

I appreciate this post though. It's made me reflect on how much time I waste reading message boards on the internet and how many hours I've wasted looking at this phone post-college.

Pretty much standard practice for any snake when they are given the opportunity. But yeh, go ahead and kill it just because of what it is. Make sure you treat dogs the same way though. Many more humans are killed by dogs than snakes every year. (And many of them stink worse than a snake)
