Looking for some reviews of this gun. May be purchasing one for my 12 year old. Bass Pro has some in stock in Denham. Anybody with any experience?

What does the easy trigger fix involve?

Pretty much snipping some off of the spring. Search YouTube tons of videos to walk you through the process.

One of my son has one and it is very accurate and the 7MM-08 round is a good one.

My daughter is shooting one this year. I shot the managed recoil rounds out of it and it grouped awesome at 100 yards. Recoil felt like a mouse fart. Just for kicks I starting shooting a plate at 200 yards and could have hit it all day long.

My son has one with the accutrigger. Great gun great caliber.

He shots hornady reduced recoil rounds and is very accurate with it.

We have several savage rifles and I have been happy with all of them except the 22LR due to the magazine.

7mm08 is the perfect round for Louisiana. My dad got me a Remington around the same age. Tried replacing it 3 times but it is still my favorite rifle in my collection. Actually killed two deer with one bullet with it. I preach that round to anyone willing to listen. Trigger pull does suck though. I would pay to have a gunsmith do the trigger mod. A couple of guys in our club cut the springs on theirs and every single one has missfired. Vince did mine when he was at Heberts gun. A bit pricey but I have had that gun for almost 20 years and have never once had an issue with it.

Got one for my son and daughter at the beginning of the summer. My dad and I went sight it in Thursday great shooting gun. Used the hornaday reduced loads they were very smooth. Had a little trouble getting comfortable with it due to the short stock and I'm 6'4" with long arms. Put 8 rounds thru it and couldn't be more impressed for the money.

My only complaint is the action once cycled is a bit tight hoping that loosens up over time.

Best option is a Savage youth trophy hunter. It's an upgrade to the Axis. Look on Savage's website for the specs.

Been awhile since I looked, but I considered buying one for my son until I gave him my old rifle instead.

Both you and your young one will enjoy the 7-08. I don't have an Axis, but I bought a Savage bolt action for my son's first deer rifle and own two Savage bolt action pistols, as well. All have performed very well. I've got a Remington XP-100 handgun chambered in 7-08 and it's one of my favorites. When your son's at the bench, I'd suggest wearing both ear plus AND muffs and would start out w/ a small sandbag between the recoil pad and his shoulder. If the factory recoil pad isn't a good one, change it out for a quality one like"Kick Eez".

As far as modifying the trigger here's a LINK that addresses that.

I will second you on that assesment Mr. Parker. The Trophy hunter has much better feel than the Axis line. They sell them with the scope combo package with Nikon optics. Out of the box the pattern is pretty tight for bore sighting from the factory.

I just put my youngin' on the Savage Trophy Hunter .308 and couldn't be more pleased.

7mm08 is a great round. I just find the .308 round alot easier to find with options. 7mm08's are sometimes as hard to find.

... I got one for my then 11 y/o last year partly based on a similar thread on this board. very satisfied with the gun. he shot at 3 deer last year; dropped two of them in their tracks. the third was shooter error (he rushed the shot and had a clean miss). the gun is easy to handle, groups shots well at 100 yards, etc. (one deer he dropped with it was at least 175 yards off.
