Mail in rebate

Don't really need one but was wanting to get a .308 at some point. For $179 I dont think I could go wrong.

Does anyone own one of these or have experience with Savage? If so how is the gun? I've read some pretty good reviews on it for being what it is. It will prob be given to my son in 3-4yrs anyways.

Damn, now that's a deal!

Too bad I've already spent a couple hundred bucks on hunting gear in the last week! Lol!

My son has the same gun except with the accutrigger. For $179, I don't think you can go wrong.

Got one in 308 for $139 a month ago, but I may go buy another in a different caliber for $179. Gun seems decent. Scope is nothing to write home about, but its okay. Trigger is not that great, but a new spring for $15 and 10 minutes of time made it much nicer.

Mcarbo Spring Kit

Shipped quickly, simple install. Hardest part was just scraping out the wax stuff that holds the old spring in place.

Get a pair of pliers out the tool box and cut a ring off the spring.

I bought a Savage Axis in .308 a few years ago and I like mine. Paid about $350-400 from Cabela's but it came with a scope at the time.

Also have another Savage rifle in .22 WMR. Forgot the model number off hand, but its not an Axis. Both my Savage rifles shoot great. Can't beat em for the price.

Nah, mine is the just the Axis XP. Only difference between the regular and the II from what I can tell is the II has upgraded Accu-trigger. And if you get the XP package w/ scope, the basic model has a Bushnell and the II has a Weaver.

I bought my little girl an Axis in 243. I caught it during the Walmart gun clearance for 179 without a scope. I put a pro staff 2x7x32 and she’s in business. Plenty accurate for me.

Good deal and good rifle. My cousin has that one in 308 and it shoots great since he replaced the cheap scope that came with his.

Question: Is it best to have a backup rifle in the same caliber as my main rifle (270), or one of the others?

depends on if you want to buy 2 different kinds of ammo. shite can get expensive.

also depends on what youre trying to hunt. you just after whitetail or you going to go after elk and bigger game?

Have one in .270. Cut the spring myself since the trigger pull is around 6 lb from factory. Second season with it, and all seems good. Killed 2 deer with it last year.
