I hear that the minn Kotas are crap. Even the dealer told me not to buy them for offshore. I also hear these Rhodans are awesome but they are 5-6 k for my boat. (I need the 72 inch pole and between the two voltages. ) Any other options?

That dealer is an idiot. The ipilot is the best fishing accessory ever invented and offshore is where it really shines the most

I agree with the poster above. The only thing crap about the minnkotas are the automatic deploy which they have been having issues with. Don't be lazy and get the manual deploy and you wont have many issues.

You need to find better sources. The MK Terrovas are great.

I think MK just announced an 87” shaft if that helps.

I recommend getting from Russell marine. Get on Facebook and message him. He beat every local price by a big margin.

Get the Minn kota and find another dealer to buy from and install

Just sold a boat with a 17yr old MK and currently have another boat with a 15yr old MK. Like other poster said, find another dealer to spend your money with because that one is an idiot!

Whoever said its crap is trying to sell you on something they make more money on. Anchor feature on the minn kota is hard to beat offshore while fishing wrecks and rigs

Brother just got one on a 21' Nautic Star and likes it. Don't think he paid 5-6k though so he probably got a smaller model. One really nice thing about getting a Minn Kota is if you're running Humminbird graphs it will all integrate seamlessly and you can use your TM to follow contour lines, etc... instead of just spot lock.

This has been fixed by Minn Kota. They upgraded the brushes in the motor and they don't corrode as fast and they updated the software to not always have constant power on the motor that controls the self deploy. You'll notice that the newer models/upgraded models now have a delay when pushing the deploy button... this is because the motor has to power up before deploying. Water was getting in the motor causing problems when constantly powered.

My buddy went through tons of research on this and ended up with the Rhodan on a 26 ft cobia. I think the 70+ inch shaft and the highest thrust they make.

His reasoning was the minn kota thrust isn't as strong as advertised.

Just fished Monday with a Capt that has a Rhodan on a 41' cat.

Only 97% of all guide boats have them bolted on so I guess he is somewhat correct. When rhodan has as many as MK in use I’ll drink the koolade.

I hear the Rhodans are good but the main issue with them is there aren’t many places that service them yet, so if you have a problem you don’t have anywhere to take it to get fixed.

Someone on here a couple of weeks ago said if you have a trolling motor on a boat you shouldn't be offshore. Guess he has a big inland boat.

Yea...first time I fished on a boat with it some years back it was so cool. It's almost hard to do without once you get used to it....a normal anchor is just so inadequate.

I highly recommend getting one of those Ram stabilizing mounts to keep the head from bouncing around.

I agree completely....the spot lock function is a GAME changer for jigging / bottom fishing especially if you are alone or your partner aint good at handling a boat. I used mine to chum yellowtail....it was FAR better than anchoring and trying to tie off at just the right spot on the side of the boat to keep the chum in line with the wind, tide and the reef.....the TM ALWSY kept the stern of the boat pointed at the reef and even if the wind and tide weren't right as long as the tide was it was perfect. Game changer. Also great for working weedlines and floating debris.....I would imagine also great for working rigs

One important caveat...if you ain't accustomed to the spot lock function or anchor function get used to it in water that won't kill you if you fall out of the boat LOL...if you are in an awkward position and all of sudden a 100 pounds of thrust kicks on at exactly same time as a wave hits just right it would be easy to get wetter than you'd like...I ain't ever done it but I have come close a time of two...
