After work I was gonna cut the backyard. Go to check gas level and noticed the cap was open with a white substance around the opening. After a 1 minute interrogation of my 2 yr old twins, one proudly showed me a bottle of sunscreen that he squirted in the tank. What are my options?

Step 1. Beat said twins so they never mess with dads stuff again.

Step 2. Drain tank and put fresh fuel in.

I would just drain it. Fresh gas and see what happens.

Unhook the fuel line at the carb and drain it or at the fuel filter if it has one.

It probably wouldn't damage the engine it if you ran it as is. Valve guides would get some extra lube and the exhaust may have a nice coconut fragrance

That would be a nice benefit. Talked to a mechanic friend and he said to drain it and pour more gas in and drain again and run it. Will try that.

Bonus pic of my boys. I was stern with them but can’t be mad at them for long. The perpetrator is on the right. He said sorry and wanted to help me “fix it” with some pliers.

Drain the Tank from the carb not the tank

As someone who is an identical twin, the mischievousness is just now starting. My mom caught my brother and I on the roof at 3 1/2. They had just built a house and we climbed the antenna. Good luck Best thing is, though, they'll always have a best friend to run with, get in trouble with and blame stuff on the other. They're twins and boys...I'll say a prayer for you tonight.

You can't pull the tank out?

1. Pull off fuel line at carb.
2. There is a fuel filter on line change.
3. Clean tank.
4. Reinstall

Should be okay.

I have a 4-year-old so I'm with you bro. I wouldn't want double trouble.

Remember all the times your old man fussed at you and told you to stop meddling and touching shite.

I suspect the one on the right is your culprit, has that look in the eyes of the early stage of "Hold my Beer". Nice kids BTW

Hand him a pair of blue handle channel-locks and let him beat the shite out of the mower like a true plant operator.

To add to what others are saying, add a little SeaFoam to the tank when you refill.

Cute kids. The one on the right definitely did it.

That's exactly what they were doing when I was trying to figure out how much sunscreen was in the tank.

Couldn’t get the gas to drain from the gas line for some reason. Got a pump doohickey from Lowes and drained the tank. Poured more gas in and drained that. Cranked up and ran like a champ. Gonna run it about 30 more minutes and then change the fuel filter. Disaster averted! (Hopefully)

Nah, not yet. There is a learning curve here for you and your twins. They haven't helped you out yet by filling up the tank on your mower or your vehicle from the garden hose. Those are some handsome younguns, btw! ETA: If I was their Papaw, them little fellers would be spoiled ROTTEN.
