Why not? It only going to keep spreading and get worse and there is a new thread every week asking the same thing that has been discussed numerous times.

Put a sticky and link all previous threads.

Some folks make a living from organizing deer hunts like Levellwood in West Greene, AL

I would think that on an outdoor forum, that a subject of such importance that affects one of the most discussed topics, being deer hunting, would not be ignored.
I request a sticky also.

I request also that Chucken be woke up and rule on this.

Yep. The Q thread on poli is not stickied and has like 75k posts. If the topic generates traffic it will stay on top just like the AR thread that shows up pretty frequently.

Cant remember the last time I clicked on the FAQ on this board.

It has less posts than the thread about browning having stock finish issues. CWD does not generate the attention it deserves because a small percentage of outdoorsmen really truely give a shite. In reality very very few people are currently affected and the ones that aren't would prefer to keep their heads in the sand.

Outlaw supplemental feeding of wild game at the federal level, kill and test more deer in high concentration areas that are positive carriers, and start trying to understand the disease and how to better test for it.

The biggest development that needs to happen IMO is some type of field test, like a pH strip for CWD that hunters could perform themselves. The first step is doing better research, the state doesnt have the manpower to do it but the hunters do if given the tools.

Of course you are dealing with rednecks, outlaws, barely functional retards, and other dregs that make up the "deer hunting" population in this country. Asking to do anything half arse organized is a stretch

This needs a sticky.
Here is a for MDWFP CWD information page.
MDWFP additional info and links to videos of public meetings. I attended the Marahall county meeting.
TDOB CWD found in Alabama.

This subject really needs a sticky.

Downshift, this has been studied for over 50 years. They still know very little. The last thing we need is overreaction in the name of “doing something”.

I feel like the states don't know how to react. For instance, voluntary sampling. As of Dec 20th, MS had only tested just under 3k deer since October 1st. If you really want to get a handle on what's going on, make sampling mandatory. Get the processors involved. Have them save heads weather the hunter wants to have the deer tested or not. The state has put freezers all over, I am sure they can afford a few more.
I do believe that feeding is a big part of it. I don't know that anything can be done federally as the deer belong to the states.

The drop off area for the Jackson area is up at the Hwy 43 bridge. If they want heads, they should set up a drop off by Vans deer processing.
I did hear that Louisiana tested a bunch from a Tensas draw hunt. Not sure if that’s correct.

Doesn’t really matter, though. I’ll save them a lot of trouble and tell them that CWD is here. And nothing they’re doing is making a difference.
If corn is the problem, why did this start and spread in N Colorado and Wyoming? You don’t see many feeders out there.

Exactly. For deer to be testing positive, the disease has been here for awhile. There are areas that have had it so long they’ve stopped testing. It’s not the plague people seem to think it is. There’s very little that can actually be done to stop it, only slow it down.

Stopping corn piles and testing more deer is hardly overreacting, the former is effortless to implement. Just make a rule. The latter requires more resources but we are going off such a minute sample size now that I have a hard time taking any data on it seriously other than "we've confirmed it here"

Cut it out for 10 years, test more deer, observe the results.

And the result would be it’s still here. Banning suppimental feeding may actually increase the rate it spreads by increasing deer density through lack of take. Deer interact whether there’s corn on the ground or not. You gonna ban oak trees? I wouldn’t lose a minute of sleep if supplemental feeding was banned state wide but that’s not the issue. The issue is the transport of infected deer for trophy operations, and the damage is done. No measures taken in any infected areas have shown the ability to eradicate the disease. It’s very biologically persistent.

If you want to “do” something, you should be advocating for research on the disease itself and it’s potential for transmission across species. CWD is a fact of life now.

This needs to be an abandoned talking point. There are very clear extreme differences between natural feed distribution and a mountain of corn/rice bran. The one that's much tougher to discuss is agriculture which also concentrates populations, and we actually need that.

I agree transporting deer is a horrible idea and the disease is here to stay. Doesn't mean we should not pick the low hanging fruit on mitigating the spread.

Imo what it probably means is we have far beyond the carrying capacity of deer in the affected area. Nature will find a way to regulate population density and this might be it. I dont think deer were ever meant to be densely populated anywhere.
