After 4 years of deliberating and many vacations, my family and I are moving to Asheville. I've already secured a pretty good job there and we will be moving in two weeks. I'm looking forward to fly fishing in the surrounding areas. Anybody on here from there?

I haven't experienced the fishing there yet but I plan on making that a top priority, and I'll post my adventures on here when I can.

I'm not from there. But I just spent a week around Ashville and it was one of the best vacations I have ever taken. My wife and I really loved the area. Hiking, whitewater rafting, fishing, horseback riding and the "Mountains"!! Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, South Mountain, French Broad River, Pisgah National Forest, Boone!!

Did yall go to The Salvage Station while yall were there? It's a really cool bar/hangout area on the French Broad that just opened, and it is family friendly. One of my favorite places we visited while there.

We will be sharing some waters as I'll be only a couple hours away from you. Be sure to post up in the official fly fishing thread. We have a good variety of fly fishing guys that fish all sorts of water

congrats. While it may have been a difficult thing to move away, your kids will likely benefit from it for their entire lives.

I really liked Boone. Great college town, reminded be of Boulder. Also check out Maggie Valley. If you're into motorcycles you should see Wheels Through Tome in MV. Be prepared to spend some time there.

Yeah I follow that thread pretty closely. One of my bucket list items are to fly fish in the mountains, so that is one of the things I am most excited to do.

Chucker. Yeah moving away from my family has been the difficult part of this. I agree that my kids will benefit in every aspect of their lives.

I live in the Piedmont of NC but have spent tons of time in and around the NC mountains.

More trout water than you will fish in a lifetime - some of it better than others. Eventually you will grow tired of catching stocked fish and seek out the wild trout populations and smallmouth bass.

FYI many people don't know this but there is a fishable population of Muskie in the French Broad and other major river systems in the Appalachians as well as some lakes.

Head west towards the reservation and national forest. It is the best trout fishing in the SE.

My wild trout game needs work. You can provide some insite on areas to fish if you like.

I would move to that area in a heartbeat.

I've heard the job market is pretty rough over there, so congrats on landing a good gig

Thanks man, it wasn't easy finding a job. I, like a lot of people down here have an industrial background that doesn't translate very well up there. I have to commute about 45 minutes but it will be worth it. Which, it takes me anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to get home in BR traffic so really nothing is changing in that aspect.
