I have been using Remington managed recoil for my boys (5, 7 & 3 yr not shooting yet)

I love these loads for them, but It seems this Remington ammo is discontinued in most places

I see mostly Hornady Custom Lite now, and curious of any who have experience with reduced recoil ammunition

Currently shooting 7mm-08, considering adding a youth .308 as well.

My son has been shooting the Hornady reduced recoil in his 7mm-08. Honestly I don't care for it. Some people do, but I'm not impressed with its thumping power.

I have 2 7mm-08 rifles. My son (18) has used his since he was 8. It is such a sweet shooting gun with standard ammo that I don't think the reduced recoil is necessary.

Using the Hornady in a 7/08
Keeps sighting shots in a 2" orange dot all day
Most accurate factory ammo in my model 7

Have had pretty good luck with 7 mm 08 managed recoil but it is a pain taking 2 rifles when a longer shot may be presented for Dad.

Have considered switching to regular 7-08 cartridges which would eliminate that second rifle

Hunting with myself a 5 & 7 yr old, requires a lot of gear

My wife and boys both shoot savage rifles with after market muzzle breaks and use reduced recoil Hornaday loads.

She shoots a .308
the boys shoot a 7mm-08

very reliable ammo. groups very well shot to shot. The POI is different between the reduced recoil and non reduced recoil from the same weapons on the same day, as would be expected.

My wife is sighted in 1.5 high at 100 and the oad has performed well out to 250 with single shot kills on pigs.

My son has shot pigs and deer out to 150 with his sighted in dead on at 100 and the devastation is significant.

My only issue is the cost of the rounds for sighting in and practicing with the weapons.

I've heard good things about it but have no first hand experience with it.

My suggestion is order the stuff you like if it's still available anywhere. Don't fix what ain't broke if you don't have to.

I bet you could switch to standard off the shelf stuff and the kids never notice the difference, especially if the gun fits them well and they're shooting at a deer.

I think you are probably right. It is such a smooth caliber, the reduced recoil really shouldn't make that much of a difference.

I bought some Corelokt the other day. He's going to shoot that from now on, but I'm not even going to tell him.

As long as the gun isn't too long he'll be fine. Recoil is far, far less tolerable with a. Gun that doesn't fit.

My 9 year old shoots the custom lites in .30-06. We are very pleased with their performance on deer. Thumps them with authority.
