Anyone know of a place that's well respected when it comes to getting ears cropped? We just got a doberman puppy and am going to need a place in the next few weeks.
Thanks.

I thought cropping dogs ears was only socially acceptable if the owner gets his ears cropped to match?

Don't do it. I didn't crop my Boxer's ears.

Dr. Debbie Schaffer is the best in the business. Located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Just ask a vet who they recommend. IMO a doberman without cropped ears, looks like a hound. I would definitely get it done.

This/\

Doberman's with their ears flopping around look plain silly. Cropped ears and docked tails are what makes them look like they do-----regal and a bit intimidating. And that is the purpose of these guard dogs isn't it???

Tell your friend they are born with regular tails, meaning long and are docked shortly after birth to meet a 3 inch standard. Ears are like any dogs ears and are cropped to stand straight up.

Why do people gate ear cropping but don’t mind tail docking

Not sure what "gate ear cropping" means but I'm thinking because it's done when the dogs are very young, usually just a few days old, that they liken it a bit to circumcising boys at birth--------they won't remember it.

Whereas ear cropping is usually done at an older age on dogs and it takes a fair amount of time to heal even with them wearing the cone of shame to keep them from scratching the stitches out.

Cropped and docked is how a doberman is supposed to be. My boy's ears were already done by the breeder's vet/cropper. But, I did spend months taping and posting them so they'd stand correctly. Dog didn't give a shite.

That is exactly how I would want a Doberman to look.

The people who don't like it, don't like either. Breeders and breed standard is a cosmetic standard, not an ethical one.

I don't have an opinion for or against it. I like herders and people get pissy about gluing/taping ears to get tipped ears.

Thanks! He just turned 8, which is starting to get up there for a dobie. He's the smartest dog I've ever had - smarter than the shepherd I had from world class working lines. He was a great protector for my daughter growing up. She was 5 when we got him. He'd always go out in the back yard with her and keep watch.

Anyway, they're great dogs. Sorry, I'm no help for a cropper in LA. Kuno came from near Atlanta, and that's where his ears were done.
