Looking for a rechargeable flashlight for my parents. Size doesn't matter, it will just sit by the front door, but I'd like it to light up the sky so they can check for cayotes around their house. Around $100. TIA.

Streamlight Stinger

I keep one in my truck on the charger. Great flashlight and really bright.

+1
I have the UltraStinger and its great. Super bright, charger is very well made, battery lasts longer than you'd think, and its held up through the abuse.

Rechargeable?

Are they planning on plugging it in and leaving it on the charger? Or are they going to remember to recharge it periodically?

For a front door light, sits a lot - used seldom, I would go with battery powered.

This is a great light for spotlighting yotes. It says that it has a beam distance of up to 750 meters, which is accurate, but i believe that you could use it to shoot out to 500 yards if you needed/wanted to.

I'd take a hard look at the Streamlight ProTac HL-X. it's compact and extremely bright and the light and beam quality are very good. When I compare it to cheaper lights I own that advertise the same lumen output, the Streamlight leaves them all in the dark.

I've owned it for a couple years and I absolutely love it.

After having several streamlines shite the bed at work we started running pelican.

They've been flawless and last longer on batteries.

All we buy now. Considerably cheaper as well.

I have both the stream light stinger led and a nitecore MH12. Both are great, but for this use I’d go with the stinger. The beam is more concentrated than the nitecore and the stinger I leave on the charger in my truck has held up well for years.

For hunting I like the nitecore due to its compact size and brightness. The charger is a mini usb charger which may be a little tougher to use than the stream light charger for an elderly person.

Anything from Fenix has my vote. I have two now and they put the power of sun in a very very small device. I recommend whatever the current iteration of the PD35 is now. Doesn't have a focus beam, though. So it's not for a really long distance.

But fenix makes a ton that will have a focus beam.

I've got one of these and it's one hell of a light. Only complaint is those stupid CR123 batteries...

I have two of the older style PD35's in my boat plus one at the camp and two at home. That beam goes out a LONG distance. They are weather/rain-proof and reliable. Been using these for years - never had one fail yet

Fenix website says this about the latest version:
With vastly improved performance, the new PD35 V3.0 can blast an amazing 1700 lumens a total distance of 1171 ft. (357 m). The PD35 V3.0 is powered by a single 18650 rechargeable battery (included), or can operate on two disposable CR123A’s.

Their website says it has a runtime of 230 hours when using the 5 lumen Eco mode, and 1.5 hours on "turbo" 1700 lumen mode. $80 (includes rechargeable battery) is a pretty good price.

What do they use on
“ cops- live on patrol “

Watch out for cheap LEDs. They heat up and begin blinking

Don't go too small, like a Jetbeam Raptor, because they'll lose it. Ask me how I know.

For $100 you have too many options to list. Don't go cheap, because while the LEDs "last forever" the circuit boards required for them to run don't. I'd get something no smaller than hand size, 6" or so. Streamlight, Fenix, Jetbeam, O-light; take your pick.
