someone on the OB a while back was recommending a 125 gr load he shoots in his .30-'06 (same cal. i shoot). all i've seen so far are the managed recoil loads in this grain weight which is not what i recall him recommending. can someone refresh me on this or post a link to the thread?

No reason to shoot a 125 out of a .30-06 IMHO. It's more of a varmint round. Shoot 150

some of the reviews of this ammo say DON'T use this cal for game animals bc of fragging on impact.

I shoot 130gr out of my 270 and it does damage. If you're going to go light I would suggest the Barnes x bullet.

Edit, whatever your gun shoots best.

123 gr FMJ

Saying that about soft points? I know that a ballistic tip will do that but not sure about a soft point.

That one you're talking about probably still kicks pretty hard because its loaded so hot. Its a hand load.

European companies usually make some high quality ammo in oddball sizes. I'd look at lapua, privi, Norma, etc.

.30-06 is pretty rough on the shoulder. Do you have a good kick pad on your gun? The good ones like limb saver make a big difference.

Cant go wrong with the ole Locts either, what I put down the barrel of my 30-30.

prob what i'll end up doing.

the frag problem i refered to was either a sectional density problem with the round they were using or they were shooting ballistic tips.
however, i've used ballistic rounds before without a frag problem.

I would think ballistics would be a challenge on such a light round. I would downsize to a .25-06, 7mm-08 or even a .260 if you prefer the style of a .06

Faxis is the man you're looking for, but you're not gonna find anything he shoots OTC. All hand rolled stuff.
