Anyone here have a Ravin crossbow? Which model and how do you like it?
I’m looking at getting the R29x sniper package. The sniper package comes with the dial to dial in the yardage but I’m not sure if that would be better or worse when deer hunting. The other ones come with the yardage lines inside the scope.

Why? I don't use one but it doesn't mean I want them regulated.

They aren’t going to make them illegal. A lot more people started bow hunting when they made them legal which put more money in government pockets. Same with “primitive” arms season. We’re basically shooting a 30-06 at deer these days during what used to be muzzle loader season. I’ve always hunted with a compound and I hunt on public so I bow hunt probably 90-95% of the season and I’m just kind of tired of watching deer go by out of my range. I always limited my shots with my bow to 35 yards. So I’m switching over to a crossbow so I can shoot a little farther.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with utilizing a legal weapon such as a crossbow. If you want to consider it like using a gun. Go for it. They have the same issue as using a bow, arrow and broad head....

It gives a bow hunter a little more range. In areas where you cannot use a firearm they are prime. Especially if hunting areas that are surrounded by neighborhoods. I don't believe any of us are getting younger, so it also assist as you get older, but still want to archery hunt. Many pluses as discussed. Only minus is the stigma that its cheating... It's not.

Most of the people complaining are people who use a 45-70 during primitive arms. f them!! Never seen so many little bitches whine as they do!! These are the people who have cameras in the woods and wear scent lok suits!!

Yeah I don’t understand people getting upset with how someone else kills a deer, as long as they’re using legal means. If you wanna shoot a crossbow, shoot a crossbow. If you wanna shoot a recurve, good for you.
Now I gave my brother shite for using a crossbow just for the sake of giving him shite but I’m fixing to give up my shite talking rights

What I meant is that there is nothing wrong with taking game by any legal means. I was agreeing with you there.

However, to say that a crossbow has the same disadvantages as a bow that you draw back is not true. Not even close.

I don't care how people hunt, as long as it's legal. But compounds and crossbows aren't comparable.

Bottom line for me is that you will absolutely make a better shot with the X bow over a compound. There is a lot less to contend with on the X bow, less opportunity for something to go wrong. And to that end; I equate it to less non fatally wounded deer. Not to mention; I like filling my arsenal with as many different weapons as possible. BTW: I got a .444 for sale if anybody interested! Ha!

Unless you're hunting with a long bow or recurve bow, without sights, using fingers, and real feathered fletched wooden arrows then you have no reason to complain at all about crossbows.

if you use a Vertical compound with fiber optic sights, 80% letoff, carbon arrows, mechanical broadheads, wrist/thumb release aids, etc., then your setup isn't even close to anything traditional at all.

People who have bitched and moaned about people legally hunting with 45-70s and crossbows, were the original Karen’s.

I have a friend that shoots a Ravin. Awesome weapon. Shoots 430 feet per second. I bought the Barnett Ghost 405. Cant tell the difference. Paid 699 on eBay brand new. Only difference is mine doesn’t crank back you have to pull. I think it was worth the $2,000.

Dave I get you not agreeing with the crossbow being the same as a compound. I simply said the both utilize an arrow and blade.

You disagreeing with it being a perfectly acceptable weapon to kill a deer is a perfect example of people thinking it’s inferior to use them in the field.

I bought a Centerpoint Specialist 370 XL, upgraded to a Hawke made Speed Scope, and purchased 8 custom made arrows from Jerry at Tapp Nation. Arrows he guarantees to be accurate out to 100 yards.

So for around $600, I can take an animal just as effectively as that Ravin, plus I saved 2 grand.

Look at the new Centerpoint CP 400. Centerpoint bought out Ravin. The CP 400 uses the limb Heli Coil technolgy of the Ravin, matched with the rail, stock, etc of the Centerpoint Sniper. Cost is less than $700. 5 year warranty and 400 fps.
