Looking into buying a good Radar Detector for my truck. What’s a good Radar detector?

I think they all pretty much are “good”. The more expensive the further away it can detect radar usually. I have a 10yo beltronics 955. Works well enough for me.

I have a cheap Uniden that works great. If I were to buy the best I'd get a V1

I thought everyone just uses Waze these days.

Buddy of mine had a v1 he drives like a banshee and never gets tickets, I’m a believer!!
I use Waze on the interstate but typically only run 15-20mph over limit.

I'm convinced the cops running radar must constantly delete themselves from waze.. my wife thinks her life's purpose is to warn me constantly that I am speeding and that there is a cop coming up per her waze app. Sometimes the "police" will disappear from waze.. only to still be sitting there when we top the overpass. She loses her mind when I don't slow down. I just tell her to shut up, they aren't gonna drag me out of the truck and shoot me! Geez

If he's using Lidar on you, once it detects it, it's too late. And it's such a focused beam there's not much "leakage" to detect it outside of the targeted vehicle. Lots of departments in Louisiana are going to LIDAR now. I know of a few in SWLA that already use them.

Passport

Regarding laser - I've been hit a handful of times with laser. Got a ticket once because he was a good shot and didn't trip my detector. Every other time my detector was tripped.

In all my years of experience, lasers are few and far between, since they require the operator to be out of their patrol car (or opening their window if they can somehow park perpendicular to the road). I'd imagine this is why all of the lasers I've encountered were from either a motorcycle cop or a cop with his back hatch open sitting in the back.

If he's running Lidar (Laser) radar detector is useless. Best way to avoid a speeding ticket is to limit yourself to 8 MPH over the speed limit if in front of the pack, and if with a pack stay to the 3rd spot at best. With all of the new guiderails lining highways and freeways, most of the cops travel in 2s or 3s with one using Lidar/Radar, and the other one or two pursuing.

I use an Escort Max 360C in conjunction with WAZE. I drive 5-8 mph over the speed limit since I know 2 LEO's (State, City PD) who confirmed they use LIDAR. The 360C has Wi-Fi and connects to your phone for a smart screen display (like WAZE)

I use Escort max 360 c with waze in one vehicle and Valentine gen 2 with waze in another. Both work great, the Escort has a few more features than the Valentine but won't reach out as far. Utube Vortex Radar, he gives unbiased reviews on all of them.

Unless you are in Krotz Springs you don't need a radar detector if you are only going 5-8 mph. Those are rookie numbers, no one is pulling you over for that. You can pass cops all day with cruise set at 9 over.

Escort Redline 360 is the best detector currently available. Use in conjunction w/ waze, stay under 20mph over the limit and you cut your ticket chances immensely. The efficacy of both drops considerably if there is insufficient traffic on the road you're on.

Escort Redline 360

I've had several corvettes and now have a 2023. This is by far the best radar I have ever owned. If you tune it right in the app (you can find YouTube videos with radar nerds), it eliminates almost all false positives. It picks up signals from far away, and the directional arrows are awesome.

you have obviously never driven through: Ball, Pollock, Georgetown, Tullos, Urania, Jena, and other small towns in Bumphuc, Louisiana. You will be written a ticket driving 2 mph over the speed limit in Olla, LA. I travel the rural country roads visiting with all 64 Parish Sheriff's Offices. and School Board Presidents.

Exactly, I don't really speed but I have one to keep myself from slipping up going through these little towns like this.

I have an older Passport Escort 9500ix that I bought from a crackhead like 10 years ago for $40, it still works great and will pick up radar from a really long way out. I liked it so much I put the same model in my wife's vehicle as well.

V1 generation 2. I have been running these for 30 years. Hard to beat. The most important thing is to realize HOW to use them and that they cannot protect you against trigger (instant on) radar.
