I thought about picking one of those up myself but don't really care for the bone collector on it. I still will probably get one because the knife is nice.

Combo blades are good for cutting the frick outta yourself.

Nothing beats a good sharp locking straight blade.

The have so many choices to choose from. I've lost a couple of really nice spyderco's that were the perfect size. Similar in size to my Benchmade Griptillian.

Normal people won't buy a Chris Reeve knife.

Zero Tolerance has the fastest and most solid assisted opening knives I have ever owned

My Military is bigger than most people would want, but I don't wear yoga pants so I have no problems. They have a Para Military that is smaller I believe with a g10 handle in S30V

Eta: I have wide hands, so maybe that's why it fits so well.

Sv30 is great steel

154CM is about as good as you can do with knife steel IMO.

I'm no knife snob though. I abuse the frick outta pocket knives. My skinning knives are the only ones I take care of. They're just 440 and hold up well.

Its been a few years, but isn't S30V considered better steel than 154C? and i think D2 is too?
I know 154C has better corrosion resistance but not necessarily a better steel... correct me if i'm wrong

Very easy to get razor sharp

S30V is one of the harder folder steels. A lot of them still have VG10. S30V is considered the upgraded 154cm. D2 is tool steel

As far as hardness S30V > VG-10 > 154CM

Ease of sharpening goes VG-10 > 154CM > S30V

One time I spent like 10hrs researching knife steels

D2 is mill bit steel. Very good corrosion resistance but not on par with 154cm or s30v.

s30v is VERY good steel. So is 154cm. S30v requires ceramic or diamond to sharpen IIRC where you can sharpen 154 or D2 with a sharpening steel.

I prefer D2 though just because it's easier to sharpen and holds an edge very well. S30 and 154cm are both "super steels"

I wrote a paper on 154cm in materials class. It's a good compromise between the cost of S30v and the lack of cost of D2

D2 is definitely my favorite though. S30V is that jap steel right? I think as far as composition and structure go S30 and 154cm are VERY similar.

Just depends on what company is buying the steel. IIRC, it is made like 3 different places, and they all get different quality of materials to make it.

Most knife steel, just like everything else in the world, is made by gooks now.

My Spyderco Sharpmaker disagrees. Best sharpener on the market IMHO

i'm leaning towards the osborne 940 or 943 with S30V... although the bone collector with D2 is intriguing.

I think it originated in either japan or australia.

All 3 are very good, but I think I'm sticking with D2 from now on. Mine has seen salt water a few times and hasn't pitted yet, and salt water can pit plastic.

It's just like everything else. You can get a truck with 700hp, but do you REALLY need it?

I'll be the first one to say, I don't really need 600hp, but it is nice to brag about

I've had a mini-griptilian for about 10 years now and its still going strong. Like an idiot, I tried prying something with the tip and broke it off, but as for doing what it is intended to do, I can't say I would prefer another knife.

Perfect size for a pocket knife and I love the axis open.

Side note: Noticed Benchmade came out with a couple filet knives. Anyone given them a try yet?

Indeed it is

If you have the coin, S30 or 154cm is the route to go. I prefer 154 just because I'm more familiar with the metallurgy of it.
