I’m mounting a transducer under a kayak and looking for the best way to do it. Since saltwater, thought I might need 316 steel brackets. Any suggestions?

Just an FYI, when I was looking to mount my transducer to my kayak I decided I wanted it easy to remove, install if need be. I wound up taking a piece of pvc that fit perfectly through the scupper hole and mounted tge transducer to a piece that screwed onto the end of that. Cut the top pc and put a cap on the upper side of it which keeps it from dropping and keeps the transducer end flush against the bottom of the kayak.
Easy peasy

Aren't you risking knocking it off if you drag your kayak ?

No there’s an indention protected on all sides and the scupper hole right there. I mean, it’s possible but highly unlikely

This, fit nicely up into the keel on mine, minimum projection if any at all. An had that yak through acres of lily pads and never had it move a bit, so I'm a believer in it.

I can’t help with ideas because mine was designed for a transducer, but yes, go with 316, especially when you’ve got electric currents.

I mounted mine inside using that grey Duct Seal putty. Shoots through the hull without a problem. Water temp can be a little slow to react to changes, not as important to me.

This will be the 3rd season and hasn't come loose yet.

Agree, I would try that before fabricating a custom bracket and drilling holes in the hull. I've heard (in addition to your post) that it works well, and if it doesn't you haven't modified or lost anything. If you're kayak fishing you typically already know how cold the water is or isn't.

Easiest way to do it is put a velcro strip in scupper hole. Attach the other strip to the transducer. Your done. It is that easy.
