Very hard to get a tag from what I’ve seen.

Know a guy that drew an out of state tag for eastern KY this year. Had a two day successful cow hunt. Long drive from TX but he enjoyed the trip.

I'm 0/2 so far.
I do like their draw system though.

Are you a resident?

If not then seriously don’t waste your time. I have looked into this on Go Hunt and the chances of getting drawn is like less than 1%

Still apply if you have the money to waste, but know you’re throwing it away.

I haven't but my in laws live in that area. Its rural. very rural. Getting a guide is probably the way to go but there's a decent amount of public land too.

Itd be a dream hunt compared to Colorado public rifle season.

Extremely limited nonresident elk licenses in Kentucky. Much better use of your time and money in states like Idaho and Montana.

Rather than start a new thread...buddy and I are looking to book a cow elk hunt to put some meat in the freezer. Starting now for 2022 to do our homework, wondering if anyone has suggestions, first on states to look at, second, on outfitters/guides. Both of us are AARP members, he’s on a reconstructed knee, and I might be by then, so 10 mile hikes at altitude daily wouldn’t be our first choice.

If youre going to pay a guide to shoot a cow I think I would shop based on lodging/accommodations/etc. Id imagine most will be able to put you on a cow.

Does cabelas still do their trip booking service? I had heard good things about it several years ago before bass pro bought them out.

Seems that would be a good route to go. I think going totally blind is a good opportunity to get swindled.

I'm pretty sure Cabelas/Bass Pro trips are hunted on the prized private land around unit 78 in southern colorado. There's 3 women that own some property right on the continental divide and basically every trophy buck you see in Cabelas and Bass Pro comes from their land. I don't even think it's fenced off. They spend a lot of money maintaining the property to attract and keep the trophy elk and mule deer up there. The monster herd bulls stay on their private property, and all the satellite bulls are all around it on public land for us regular folk to shoot. We shot 2 last year right outside of it, and we know of 4 others that were killed opening week of archery season not far from our kills.
Not sure if that's open to the public though. You may have to know someone, and then pay an arse load to go out there. You're pretty much guaranteed trophy elks and mule deers.

I’ve passed on many chances to do this in Texas. Both of us already hunt Texas every year, just hoping for a change of scenery. The Cabelas idea is a really good one, I wasn’t sure if the Bass Pro merger/acquisition had caused them to quit doing that.
