Keep one of those in my backpack. Always sharp, and never know when you'll find yourself needing a good knife.

It's tough as shite and if you lose it you don't feel bad. One of the best values in a knife you can find.

I keep one in the glove box of my truck. It's cleaned numerous deer. It's not fancy, doesn't cost much and isn't "tactical", but it's a good knife.

Dexter 6" curved boning knife I like a little better for cleaning deer / hogs than that one. Still a decent knife though.

I've probably got 7 or 8 of those. Woot has them every so often for just over $10.

Thats the carbon steel, it just does that. Theres some sort of process with vinegar that can put a patina on it.

Carbon steel rusts. Get a stainless version.

And is also much easier to sharpen. Haven't see a carbon blade in years - may have to get a couple.

Not as much easier, but can take a sharper edge than most stainless steels used for cutlery and are typically heat treated to a higher hardness so they have better edge retention. I have a small stainless Mora but might pick one of these carbon ones up and cold blue the blade.

Old hickory by Ontario is a carbon knife that takes a mean edge and some have good shapes for disarticulating an animal or chopping meat in the kitchen. The scales suck, though.

I have the SS version and they are handy for a spare knife. If you have to carbon steel version try forcing a patina on it to help with the decreasing the rust. Sand it down and completely soak it with yellow mustard. Wrap the blade with a mustard soaked paper towel.
It will still rust but is more resistant.

I got a Old Timer I carry everyday. Same knife I’ve had in my pocket for 20 years. Gets any job done.

Clean knife with rubbing alcohol
Bring a pot of Apple Cider vinegar to a boil.
Pour into a glass tall enough to cover blade
Put blade end into glass
Soak 45 minutes in glass

Repeat process until desired patina is achieved.
