Early Look at Louisiana Legislative Session
Several Bills have been filed or may be filed for the 2021 Legislative Session. Here is a run down of what we know.
Please contact your State Legislator to ensure these Bills make it to session or get a positive vote
HB16 by Rep. McCormick (R) - Constitutional Carry, legalizes Concealed Carry for the same law-abiding citizens who can legally Open Carry in Louisiana. The Concealed Handgun License will remain in tact as an option for those who wish to seek reciprocity in other states.
HB118 by Rep. Frieman (R) - Firearms Protection Act making Louisiana a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary State, to prevent federal regulation from infringing on a citizen's right to keep and bear arms.
I'm sure our resident anti 2A CCW instructor will be in here shortly to tell you how terrible these bills really are as done before.

***UPDATE***
I just learned that the opposition is emailing each Senator on the Judiciary "C" Committee.
Certainly we can do no less, especially if you can't make it to B.R. tomorrow. See the attached list of Jud C senators with their emails. Tell them to support SB118.
Let them hear from us

Glad to see these bills introduced. Hopefully they get some traction.

Hopefully this doesn't come down to the age old rural vs. urban dynamic. I'd guess the majority of Louisiana folks want this, but the people in New Orleans/parts of BR/and Shreve will fight it. Mainly transplants in New Orleans.

This one we need the most right now. The feds are getting awfully excited about possible new anti gun legislation.

I'm old enough to remember the change in drinking age from 18 to 21. Louisiana was all about the rights of young adults to buy alcohol, hell you had to register for the draft etc.
And then the Feds said "you don't comply, you don't get Federal highway funding", and that was the end of that. Same thing will happen with any type of 'sanctuary' law, for ANYTHING. We're too reliant on federal funding to stand up to them.

Do republicans have a veto proof majority?

I agree. Do it LA!

I remember hearing about that in school. Lotta good the federal funding did for Louisiana roads lol.
ETA: wasn't the Fed's whole basis for being able to do so was tying it into underage drinking and driving fatalities on federal roadways, or the potential for it. I wonder what the Fed would try to withhold in connection with a 2A Sanctuary. It didn't withhold anything from from Sanctuary Cities/States for Immigration issues (unless Trump did and if so I'm sure its been revoked since).

If I'm remembering correctly, Didn't Trump and R's try to cut funding to sanctuary cities(immigration) and the courts said no?
I can't recall if that's exactly what happened or not.
Edit:
But cities sued the Trump administration over both the constitutionality of the executive order and the conditions set by the Justice Department. A May 2019 report from the Congressional Research Service said courts that had reviewed the legal challenges generally agreed that Trump acted unconstitutionally. Cities, counties and states suing the administration mainly argued that the executive order and grant conditions violated principles on separation of powers and the anti-commandeering doctrine (which says states can't be forced to carry out federal duties), the report said.

Same thing would happen again with this, or anything else.

Hmmm, you sure about that? We have plenty of sanctuary cities right now, and nothing seems to stopping that from happening.
ETA: I see that has already been covered, but point proven. The President couldn't stop that from happening, so there's a chance to fight any BS from the feds

I don't believe they do.
JBE will definitely veto this. He's got national political aspirations and he needs to blend in with the progressive crowd.
All those dipshit republicans that still think he's some moderate, pro 2A democrat are going to excuse the veto like they've been doing for the last 5 years.

They will never willingly refuse federal funding. If Trump could have made the immigration sanctuary cities lose funding, Nola would have bent the knee.
We do not live in a Red state, it's purple... several major cities and the governor's mansion are blue. People might claim it's Red, but still vote JBE while the DNC is actively intent on destroying the fabric of society, because reasons.

BUT, as it's been stated, he didn't. So who's to say any similar actions against 2A sanctuary states would stick?

Biden has a Dem controlled Congress, the media and the tech companies all on his side.
Look, there's always a possibility. We all know that. But Louisiana still has a mask mandate, while the rest of the South has done away with it.
If you think our leaders are going to resist, I think you're mistaken.
Compare the mask map above, with the Carry map below. There's a lot of similarity. We're surrounded by states that are more permissive in their laws.
