Kind of overwhelmed with emotions right now. On Wednesday we were told my pawpaw had a brain tumor, but it was benign. Today he was rushed to the ER bc he was unresponsive. Once he is stabilized he will be moved to ICU.

I'm hurting bc I don't want to loose my pawpaw, but I understand and know he will not live forever. He is 96 years old. He has had an amazing and honorable life. Anyone that has ever known him will agree that he is an amazing, loving, irreplaceable, Christian man.

I am also hurting for my mawmaw, his wife of almost 67 years. She is 92. I can not imagine the agony that she is feeling right now. My heart breaks for her.

We are and always have been an extremely tight family.

I'm sorry if I rambled on, but I've been told that it helps to get it out. And yes it did help. Lol

I was telling a friend that I remember my pawpaw taking me into the swamp at the camp at big Alabama (Sherburne Wildlife Management). He told me to close my eyes n open my ears. N he had me retrace our steps from when we left the house. With my eyes still closed, n standing in the swamp. I credit that man for my sense of direction n adventure. To this day I find myself just sitting back and listening to nature. My pawpaw never had any grandsons. and I was the tomboy of the family. He has a rifle that belonged to his grandfather n is passing it on to my son. My pawpaw worked in his garden everyday till he was 91.

The world would be a better place if we had more people like him.

He has taught me so much.

my pawpaw

That makes me want to cry. When my son came home from school, he noticed something was wrong. I told him what was going on, I do not hide anything from him. What he did next makes me proud beyond words.

My son got on his knees and asked me to join him. N I did. He prayed and asked God to give me strength to help my family. I was in tears by this point. He asked God to wrap his arms around me and to tell me it's ok. I then turned into a marshmallow.

My son might drive me insane at times, but he is the most loving person I know. And every day he surprises me with something new. I am one proud momma. (Come Monday n working on homework I'll be a frustrated momma)

Sounds like u have a family of good folks. Keep prayin, all will be well with him.

It may be your pawpaws time, and his loving wife probably wont be far behind.... Love them while they are here, and be excited about when you all shall meet again.

Mucho prayers to your family.

If it is my pawpaws time I pray my mawmaw follows soon.

I am not being mean. Quite the opposite really. That is her man. He has loved her and helped her in a way I'll never understand. Their life hasn't been peaches and cream, but their love for one another is undeniable.

My son is 18 and last year we lost my grandmother who was very close to my son. When we found out she had cancer I sat down with him and explained the reality and he asked me " what am I going to do" - I said just love her through it Son - and he did - was hard on him but I am proud of him.

Sounds like your son is going through the same thing and I will certainly pray for him as well. Sounds like a fine young man. More prayers sent!

I understand completely. I lost my paw paw in 2006 and my maw maw last January. It was the hardest I've ever cried when I saw both of them in the casket but I knew it was for the best bc they were in a better place. That void will always be there but it gets easier to manage. I know I have 2 great guardian angels watching over me, which I need all the help I can get.
Like your paw paw, I know if they didn't make it to heaven, none of us have a chance. Prayers sent and I know God will help your family through this.

Prayers are sent my man...

Important thing is you got to enjoy many years with him and you were able to hear stories and learn lessons no one else could ever teach you in a way a paw paw could. Cherish those moments. I grew up w /o a paw paw on either side, both died before I was born and now my child will grow up w/ o a grandfather and a grandmother that have both died in the past 1.5yrs. I would have given a lot to be able to tell stories to my child about my grandfathers....
After what I dealt with in the past 1.5yrs I try my best to help folks out who have dealt with the loss of a parent and or grandparent.

He isn't gone yet, it will be sad when he does... But you will keep his memories alive even when you don't realize it.... He will watch over you and be in the back of your mind for as long as you are around. I hope things turn around for you guys. shite makes me think about my mom and makes me sad...

This thread touched my heart. I was very close to my grandpa and was in the room with my Dad the morning he passed away. I was 24 years old and that event changed my life in many ways. I will never forget the afternoon of 9-11 visiting him in the Veterans Home in Monroe and watching the events on TV with many other veterans and their families. The anger, resolve, and pride those men displayed made me proud to be his grandson. My Dad had them give me the flag from his casket at his funeral. I look at it every morning when I'm getting dressed and think of that man.

Prayers to you and your entire family.

God bless you and your family. I pray that he provides your grandpa with the strength to make it through this. And if not, I pray he wraps his loving arms around each and every one of you and comforts you. In Jesus name.

We serve a loving God!
