In the 1000-1300 range. And which one out of these two would you get. And if you have a better option, talk me out of these options.

They both look great! Do the Kimbers generally shoot better?

S&W out of those two. Its close. In that range I like the scandium and the bobtail.

Charter that S&W is my next 1911 purchase... It's definitely what I would buy out of those two. Several posters (carson, bapple, maybe one more) have a S&W 1911 and they speak highly of them.

It is a very fine gun, with intricate detailing. That's the one I would get out of those 2. It also matches my little Kimber CDP Solo with the bi-tone and rosewood grips.

The only other thing I was thinking was maybe something more tactical. Something that would hold up in rougher conditions

Unless that Kimber Eclipse is a 10mm, I would get the Scandium 1911. Carson has that exact one and loves it. I've fired a Scandium one and love it as well. Mine is a full sized 1911 but it's still a dream to shoot.

Mine in the middle, scandium on top:

I was looking at that gun. It is super fine, but I wasn't familiar with STI. Good gun?

I would stay away from any current day production Colt. They are not hand fitted like yesteryear and your paying a premuim for name only. My dad has a Kimber pro carry and it's a fine gun. I have a couple of issues withthe Kimbers 1.) The breakdown of the gun is dumb. It would be hard to fieldstrip if you loose the wire and 2.) not all of their parts are conforming to the 1911 standard. I would buy a Smith if were going to spend in your price range.

A friend has a Colt Rail Gun. You could go that way if you so choose.
