The old pond was full of these... All those trees in the background were pulled out to make the new pond. The last tree on the point now is right off my middle finger where that white tin roof thing is. We had to move that during construction.

this has been a great thread to follow.

It has been been a fun follow. The closing chapter should be a pic of a pile of fried catfish fillets. That would bring us full circle.

Great thread follow but the pond itself is just odd looking. Most geologists I’ve showed this thread to agree that no actual fish ecosystem will be able to evolve in this odd shaped and shallow flats water shed.

I don't really know. Will be interesting to get in with some waders, or drop a weighted line from a small boat to find out.

I'd guess it's 7' deep in the bend. Avg. depth of 5', and about 3' just off the rim where the bank slope flattens out.

We'll see. It's a little misleading. Here is a pic of a 7 and 5 year old standing in it to give an idea of the height of the dam. Their heads are about water level now. There's a decent slope going back to the corner behind them.

So your telling us catfish won’t suvive in that pond? Catfish can live in a mud hole! That pond is way bigger and deeper than most catfish ponds I’ve seen

I can almost 100% guarantee they will. Best cat fishing I did as a kid was in an old 3/4 acre pond that was made when the road department dug some dirt for a road. You could walk across it and it never cleared your shoulders. We would catch 10-12 anytime we put a hook in the water.

My parents place has 6 old “cow ponds” around it all stocked. No problem keeping them alive in that shallow water.

in africa on naked and afraid they were pulling catfish out of 1 foot of water by hand, no doubt you can have endless catfish fry's with this pond

I'd add some vegetation like cat tails, any aquatic vegation for oxygenation and to feed the crawfish so the catfish and bream can get fat.

These cats have been making me doubt this pond because I didn't get it dug 14' deep.
