Any ideas? Seems pretty cold hardy as the recent snow and freezes don't appear to have phased it.
TIA.

If it produces purple buds, could be Evergreen Wysteria.

Looks that that one has an alternating leaf growth while the evergreen wist has opposite.

Hmm once I found a good pic of a juvenile one, it's kinda hard to disprove it. Good suggestion either way.

Looks like a juvenile willow oak to me

Where is this located?
Perhaps:
a wild Rhododendron spp.
red bay (Persea borbonia)

Very strong suggestion.

I'm going to take a closer look for any other distinguishing characteristics and report back. But I definitely think one of the answers made here is the correct one.

After giving the picture a closer look and noticing the silvery underside, from the few leaves you can see the bottom of, I now lean to this being the answer as well.

That's awesome.
All indications point to Sweetbay so far but I will check for stipular scars to confirm.

Crumble up a leaf, if it smells like robitussin or like a Christmas wreath it's sweetbay. It's an aromatic plant

Yes. There are stipular scars.
Confirmed as Sweetbay Magnolia.
Great job OB. The knowledge on this board is incredible.
