Want to buy a pistol from my friend. What documents if any do we have to have for this transaction? In Texas by the way.
Thanks in advance.

Just a few Benjamins, depending on the weapon.

None legally, unless Texas requires, which seems doubtful.
On the other hand, you do not necessarily know the life history of the weapon and want some paper trail regarding where and when you obtained it. Get a receipt, and I like to take a pic along with the weapon and the seller for my records.
The current Democratic push for "universal background check" includes this kind of sale between private parties, which is not regarded as commercial and historically been exempt

No paperwork required. I do recommend a bill of sale though.

There is no personal sale requirement however i’d do a simple BOS for my personal records.

I agree. I always fill out a simple bill of sale with the make, model, serial number and price. Have both the buyer and seller clearly print their names and both sign it.

He hands you cash.
You hand him gun.
Shake hands.
Have beer.

This is what I did years ago. I even had someone sign as a witness.
