Has anyone ever thought of building a pillbox? Could possibly serve as a dual purpose storm/tornado shelter.

Any idea other than concrete filled cinder blocks? Maybe starting 2 feet in the ground?? Not suitable to stop a tank, but should hold up to any gunfire.

I haven’t figured out how to do the roof though. I’m not very handy.

Stupid idea?

Awesome idea. I don’t know how to build it or what you’d do with it but it’s cool idea.

I think I’d be good to 7 feet high or so…. I’m 6’2, so that would leave head room.

But I have no idea how to do a roof that wouldn’t crush me….. column or two inside???

Use ICF which is insulated foam boards. It’s easier and cheaper than cinder blocks. You will need a lot of rebar if you want it to be tornado and “bomb” proof. Also you will need some sort of air vent exchanger system or it will just be a mildew moldy mess inside of it.

I see you mentioned “gunfire”. Would it help you to build a turret gun station at the top? What about a moat with saltwater crocs and sharks surrounding it? I know guy that knows a guy that could possibly help.

Serious part. Think about how you can keep air circulating. Do you want it to be heated and cooled? Think about your door. It needs to be a metal door that can withstand to objects flying around, and also make sure it opens to the inside so you can always open it up and get out. Power source and at least some kind of benches and chairs because you may be in there a few hours.
