I’d appreciate input on 2 brands of over/unders

Used 12 gauge in decent shape

Beretta 686 onyx
Browning lightning

Prices under 1800 but not sure exactly.

Opinion, pro’s / con’s welcome

I have a 12 gauge 686 onyx. It's a fantastic gun and I love using it even though it kicks like a mule and it can be a bit hard to shoot for me. I find it a little hard to shoot but that is because the gun was originally my grandfather's and it doesn't fit me very well.

That said, my number one choice is still the Winchester 101. It is my go-to. Not as pretty as a beretta but it is what works best for me.

If possible I would encourage you to try it before you buy it.

What is your main purpose to purchase the gun?

I have a Browning O/U Citori, 3 1/2" chamber. Obviously will handle any 12ga load, from low brass target, to 3 1/2" magnum loads. Use it mostly for Dove hunting, but can be used in Duck blind. I've had it over 20yrs, is fun to shoot.

Both great guns. I believe the rib may be a bit higher on the Browning, and I believe the Beretta has an automatic safety (safety resets to on when gun is broken open). Assuming all other things are equal (e.g., barrel length, screw in chokes, condition), just pick whichever one feels best to you, can't go wrong.

I will use it for quail and dove hunting and probably friendly skeet shooting

Is the browning the same as a Citori?

Hold both see how they fell.
I have a 20ga Beretta Silver Pigeon love this gun in the past they where a little speaker than the Citori. I think Browning has made them thinner.

I have a 686 onyx. I love that gun. The wood on it is beautiful and when I shoulder it, it’s on target.

My son has a Browning Citori 725 sporting (I think that’s right). It’s his trap gun and has an adjustable comb. It is not what you’re looking at but a very well made gun.

I could say one is better than the other.

Both great guns. Maybe consider a new beretta silver pigeon for not much more than these guns used. Onyx has nicer wood and extended chokes, but you would have to be pretty serious shooter for those to matter a lot. Recommend field grade safety if hunting mostly. If at skeet field mostly that auto safety gets annoying so browning makes more sense

Excellent advice

Looking at them today or tomorrow and I might even get to hunt with them before buying. If I can then that will make the decision a lot easier

Really comes down to the feel, like mentioned above plenty of times. Can't go wrong with either though. There are plenty of options out there in both brands as well as others. Grab them shoulder them as if you are on a bird and you can tell which one fits you better. be aggressive about it too. Cause if someone yells bird left you usually don't take it easy to find the bird!

Beretta 686 onyx
Browning lightning

I have a 20ga beretta and a 12ga browning lightning. Both are fine guns no issues w/ quality etc. As others have said find the one that fits YOU best.
I have had the browning for 25+ yrs w/ thousands and thousands of rounds thru it hunting, skeet and sporting clays - no issues

Make sure the gun has screw in chokes. My choice is a minimum barrel length of 28" (26" barrel is too whippy IMO) but I prefer 30" (better swing and balance).

Probably going with the beretta.

All things being equal, I just really like the look of the gun. It has a collector appearance.

Can’t wait to go out shooting this weekend
