Anyone been on a paid non-typical hunt or non-LA buck hunt?
My son wants to go sometime in January. He has killed bucks before but would like for he and I to go together for the weekend to a decent camp/lodge and shoot a “freaky” buck as he calls them.
We live in Louisiana so any neighboring states or driving would be the ticket.

And he still get in the woods and puts in work at the lease for home grown deer so this will be a son/father weekend getaway.

TIA for any outfitters or websites you can point me to.

Check out texashuntingforum.com

There is an outfitter spot. You can find some great deals later in the season but some of the big boys will have broke up racks too.

Time to teach the son that you don’t find your wife in a whore house or your buck in a pen.

Doesn't have to be a pen hunt. Was asking if any of you guys have any experience with a guided/semi-guided for my son and I.
Looking for a weekend with him at a lodge that he can experience different than LA deer.
Lighten up, Francis

For a “non-typical” whitetail hunt? No. I’m sure there’s not anyone anywhere who knows a guide that can guarantee or even remotely guarantee an opportunity to kill or even see a big non-typical this time of year unless it is in a pen.

Not trying to be a dick but the chances of finding an outfitter this time of year to put you on a big non-typical not in a pen is the same as an outfitter that can put you on a unicorn

Ask your son if he would be interested in an exotic hunt. Like an Axis or Sitka hunt at a ranch that’s with in 250 miles of the Baton Rouge area. There are probably a dozen places. Some of the prices aren’t bad. That’s the route I would go.

There's an exotic set-up not far from me. I will bring that up to him. Thanks for the idea!

You may want to check out Grand Coteau Lodge in Raceland also. Beautiful place with exotics also.

Why go to Tx when you have MS/AL black belt close by?

I have not but one of my friends is a salesman in oil/gas and "used to" take a lot of clients.

He took a client to one around Texarkana, TX, the client shot an off limits buck with a big red tag in it's ear, costs my buddy's company $37,000.

I'm not sure how he survived being fired but he did.

check out Great Southern Outdoors in Alabama. 6,000 acres. Their archery hunts are very reasonable: 3 days $900 - $1300 depending on the dates. They have hogs as well for hunting. Gun hunt are available as well.

Their website lists an Alabama Shared Whitetail Hunt (2 Hunters sitting together) $1795 - $2295 depending on dates.

Definitely look into it. There will be several options within a 3 hour drive. Not too expensive and Axis and black buck is some of the best tasting venison there is.

Call Greg Simons at Wildlife Systems. He runs an honest operation and has hunts at all price ranges.

Sounds like you want to go this year. For the future, you won’t find a more enjoyable big game hunt than a father-son antelope hunt. A great way to experience Western hunting at a decent price with high success rates.

Go to the Texas hill country. Brady, Texas area.

Deer are like rats out there and usually they do not have trophy fees.

Plus you may get a shot at an Axis!
