other than sitting outside with a pellet gun, any way to get rid of blackbirds?

I have a couple of outdoor cats and keep food out for them, but I have a steady stream of fricking blackbirds eating their food all day.
Yes, it would be great if the damned cats would do it, but my suggestions seem to fall on deaf ears.
Fake plastic owl and leaving the fan and outdoor TV on aren't getting it done.

Try using a small rope to hang a colored wash cloth over the cats’ food if possible.
It worked in my mom’s garage to keep the birds from shitting on her mower.

Put out some white birds dressed as cops.

My dad used to get my pellet gun and sit in the backyard with either Budweiser or Woodford and put the dog food bowls out in the middle of the yard. When I came home I could tell how buzzed he was going to be by how many blackbird bodies were scattered around the dog bowls

Kill one black bird and hang it near the food bowls.
In the veginning of the year we have issues with black birds swarming the feeders. I shoot one and leave it near the feeder. Other birds will ignore it. Black birds won't go to the feeder.

Don't know if it would work with black birds, but I have been very successful catching mockingbirds with a rat trap. Obviously would need to keep it away from the cats, but may help you thin them out.

Depending on what you are calling a "blackbird", there's a really good chance it is a protected species under the migratory bird act. Your "outdoor cat" on the other hand is an invasive species that kills a ridiculous amount of native wildlife. Bring the cats inside and leave the birds alone.

I lured some with some cheese/rat poison bait but you have to ensure other animals stay away. Squirrels included. A gun works best but not in a close-together neighborhood. Theyll flock to that bait and will carry it back as well. Hate those things.

Build a cage with funnel on top and put bait inside. They will fly in and can't get out. Once you have a bunch, kill them and breast them. They are fricking delicious in a brown gravy.
