Not often in November but there are still pods that hang out in winter. I was walking downtown when I saw a pod pup up right in front of a kayaker, it was pretty cool (particularly for the kayaker)
Tide was pushing them down the channel quickly do didn't have a lot of time to compose pics. Sun wasn't favorable but made some nice backlighting when they blew.
The male has a dorsal fin approx 6' high.

Nice, Roger. What do you do for fun up there? Any hunting or fishing?

Thx for posting. Your "bad" pics even look like postcards!

A bit. Lots of hiking, getting out in the boat, fishing, skiing, some hunting. Going deer hunting tomorrow, snows have pushed the deer to lower elevations. We take a boat to an island and work the lowlands

Not happening today. Charters aren't flying and seas too high
We're going to try again in the morning

Those suckers were flying, I didn't have time to compose. Set camera settings and focused on an area. When I saw the spout, I clicked.
Backlight from the sun gives the spout an incredible look. Harder to see the critter, but the spout is luminous.

It's amazing to me that there have never been any fully verified reports of an Orca attack on a human being.
They are by far my favorite animal on the planet and I'd like to believe they recognize our intellect and that's why they don't attack people.
Cool pics.
