2006. Bought this spring. Has started and run perfectly since I bought it. At least 15 trips.

Last week, it would not start. I thought possibly I was out of gas, but that would mean I used every last drop getting it on the trailer the last trip.

Added gas. Afetr a while, it started. When I tried to restart, it took a while to do so, but would. Did this a few times. Each start took a while, and the start was violent.

My thoughts are either fuel or plugs. the bulb is old and just does not feel right when pumped. I'll probably change that out at lunch. No way I can ghange those plugs. Way different than an EFI.

Thoughts?

I'm curious why you can't change the plugs. What's different ?

On an EFI, the plugs are right there. Out in the open. On an Opti, they are all up under a bunch of crap. I googled how to, and saw lots of complaints. Especially on the lower two. I am not handy.

Dude keeps telling me..."call me tomorrow and I'll see if I can fit you in". This morning, he did not even return my call. Maybe next week.

I've changed the plugs on mine. It takes about 45 minutes per motor. You have to take off the lower cowling (or remove bolts and spread the 2 halves) to effectively get to the bottom 2 plugs. Otherwise you will have to unplug several of the air and fuel injectors to get to each plug as well. Its pretty funky in there.

How is your battery? Opti's won't start/run worth a shite on a failing/weak battery. Need 1000 MCA minimum.

Could also have fouled fuel pump or injectors. Before you got the motor did it sit for a while? EtOH fuel?

Have the fuel lines been changed, to ethanol friendly lines?

Fuel lines have not been changed to my knowledge. Battery may be weak, but it was sure turning over fast.

You can get to them and need to use one of those swivel adaptors on your ratchet and a long extension helps alot especially on the left side.Call Rusty or Bill at C-Marine and tell them you have a tourney to fish and they will usually speed it up a bit if you still dont want to tackel it.

Now for the first issue in your post, how old are the hoses on your boat? Are the ethanol approved as well as the bulb? That shite will eat an old hose. Read on the hoses themselves and if not change that out. I had the inner walls collapsing on some older hoses and little chunks of hose was fouling up the injectors. All of the hoses under the cowling in that yr model are ethanol approved but check from the motor to tank and that bulb.

Good luck

I changed the hoses on my 06 optimax last year, when I was having the same problems you are describing. I couldn't believe what the hose I changed out looked like. It was like a hose inside a hose. It was flaking off every where.

I ended up changing the hoses and filter, and she runs good again. Also are u using any type of fuel stabilizer?

Here's my problem with this direction. It's a 2006. Previous owner had no issues according to him. I had none 'till now, and have used ethanol free gas.

To go one step further, my previous engine was a '95. I never changed hoses, and never used ethanol free gas. I never used stabil. I also never had any fuel related problems.

Check your battery. One of the cells may be going bad and a Opti needs 800 cranking amps to start. Also check the belts.

This. also the fuel pump has a very fine screen that can plug up. With E10 fuel and alum fuel tanks, shite happens and a white power builds up on the fuel pump screen. Do make sure your fuel filter is clean and also add a prefilter if you don 't have one. Make sure thr prefilter is 3/8" in/out fittings.

But it eventually started. And does so repeatedly, just not quickly.

It is just a suggestion. I had an 07 250 ProXS and now a 2012. I haven't had any issues what so ever but had a friend that went through 3 power heads in about a month.

With these new motors a lot of the issues are caused by the computer which makes it impossible to work on as an owner. I don't know if that is your situation or not, but could be.

You can buy this at an auto parts store. Just ask for E10 hose. It should be 3/8" ID.

Just got a bulb because this engine does not have the connector like an EFI.

Started much faster than last attempt. Stopped it. Started right up, but "violently". Going to change taking it this weekend. It's camping, so if it doesn't work, no big deal. Shop next week, hopefully.
