I used to think it was probably bullshite but old timers used to say they could almost sense a hurricane year. Nash Roberts was the most famous and was even studied to try to determine why he was more accurate than the computers at the time. I knew some charter boat captains etc that were also eerily accurate .

As I have lived on the Coast and fished and lived outdoors since I was young I think I have developed that skill set too but I can’t put a finger on it. It’s a bad feeling. Had same feeling in George’s, Ivan and Katrina.

Last year I said hurricane in gulf but Texas or Florida not us. Everyone I fish with had the same bad feeling, This year it’s us. Central Gulf (Florida panhandle to Texas line) It must be something that I am picking up and storing in my subconscious. Water temperature, monsoons, wind directions, banana spiders, acorn patterns, fish patterns, barameteric pressure.

I could be year off but I don’t think so. Anyone else having this “it’s a hurricane year” feeling? Anyone remember all the folklore signs?

I have developed a sense too, and I think we won’t.

Man made global earth heating will cause hurricanes to stay out in the Atlantic from here to eternity. I have a feeling.

I could be wrong. It happens. Not often though.

But it’s not just me. nobody wants to talk about it but a bunch of old salts, charter boat guys that are buddies of mine have privately said the same thing. Maybe it’s just living on the water for 50 years or more. We must be reading something but nobody can articulate what it is.

it is too hot and too dry in the western part of the gulf of mexico. the world will have balance. that means hurricanes are likely.

i would say hurricane year = yes

I think the big high pressure in the Atlantic is keeping the Mid Atlantic and Caribbean waters cooler than normal so any storm that develops will do so in the Gulf or east coast areas. In the Gulf they probably won't get to big before landfall/ I wish I could post the chart but here is a link:

LINK

But in "Isaac's Storm" about the 1900 Galveston hurricane there is a lot of info about how accurate the Cubans where in predicting hurricane's paths and strength compared to the"technology" of the day in the US.

lovable local celebrity. But definitely not the guru he is made out to be.

I can sit here with just as much credibility as you by predicting we'll get a storm this year. If you're really that good, tell me when, where and how many.

Yeah, I got a bad knee from an old football injury. That sucker gets tight every time it rains. It's been really tight lately with no rain. I suspect it's a hurricane coming sometime around late August.

I'm saying no. It seems that when we have a lot of dry, hot weather they are worse. When the energy in the atmosphere does not get released by thunderstorms, it seems to me like it blows up into a hurricane.

But I'm not a meteorologist.
