What's happening offshore right now? Anything of note?

I've been busy and am jumping in with some buddies for an offshore trip out of Venice at the end of this week.

With the south wind blowing like it has, im sure the rip is nicely formed. hopefully it stays that way through the weekend. I should be chasing tuna as well this weekend- weather permitting.

Predicting lower winds from the South. Could be a different story by the time Friday rolls around though. Might try to snag a snapper limit and some cobia one Sat. or Sun. afternoon.

They should, they worked double time this past weekend. I'm not even getting excited about this weekend yet. The way it has been it will be 3-5's tomorrow morning when I check again.

Went offshore Sunday...rough as hell on the SE side...heard the guys in the west delta side had to turn around because it was so rough running south from red pass. The blue water is 70 miles out and we Didn’t attempt that. Tried for tuna for a minute then bailed and went in for snapper.

Venice fishing is a shell of its former self. All the charter boats are raping it daily...overfishing is yielding fewer and fewer tuna and people are going to stop booking once snapper season ends then I predict a bunch of these charters go belly up. It needs to happen for the fishery to have a chance

This is a problem everywhere.

People have figured out that it doesnt pay to own a boat you only use 4 times a year and have no idea how to use it. Cheaper to pay someone who is good and they clean your fish! I dont blame them nor the people capitalizing on it. I just dont like it.

Personally, I wish it didnt exist at all.

Blackfin, Red Snappah, and Mangroves are on fire down here near St Pete near Pipeline C and the submarine. Going back out Thursday for another limit.

Honestly, I think they need to change the yellowfin limit. I don't think you would see anyone complaining about a 2 per person limit. shite, I'd almost even say a 1 per person limit or somehow a limit based on weight wouldn't even be bad.

You catch one or two 100lb+ fish and you got enough meat to feed a 6 man crew and his family for a few days. I bet tons of meat gets wasted on those trips where customers kill 6 100lb+ fish and take the meat home just to freeze it and forget about it.

The current limit of 3/person just seems pretty obscene to me. Even a 6 man crew catching a limit of 30lb footballs is bringing 540lbs of fish to the cleaning table.

Swordfish have been pretty hot the past few years, but I'm starting to think they are going to follow the path of tuna now because you have multiple charters killing 1-2 a day

The problem is that I think the tuna fishing is so bad that it might have to get shut down to recover. Nobody is catching anywhere close to 6 per boat and there are so many charters that it will still be too much pressure. Im afraid the forces of supply and demand may be too late to save the fishery out there.

I'm still waiting a year or so to see if it's just a cycle. Holding out some hope that next year or the one after it will return to how it was a few years ago.

I have a hard time believing the livestock has been depleted that far. Only time will tell though.
