Within the past 36 hours both of our dogs have gotten sick. Vomiting and bloody diarrhea. It’s nothing they’ve eaten, inside anyway. Both are not eating now and drinking very little water. Both are very lethargic and quiet.

Any idea before I bring them to the vet which is a four hour wait without an appointment

Thanks

What type of dogs, age, size? Indoor, outdoor, both? Were they unsupervised in the 24hrs prior to their symptoms?

There are a host of viral and bacterial infections that can cause bloody diarrhea and/or vomiting. That in and of itself isn't necessarily an emergency situation. But if they're lethargic and not eating/drinking, you should be on your way to your vet now. If your vet can't see you in a reasonable amount of time, go to the emergency vet.

Hope your pups are okay

Flip their gums up. If they have red streaks their kidneys are failing. Sounds like they got into a poisonous substance

Can give them hydrogen peroxide and it will make them throw up whatever they ate. Depending on how long ago it happened.

Yeah, their gums should be a bubble gum pink color. If they're pale pink or white, could be a sign of internal bleed

Whatever the case, a vet needs to assess them sooner than later

Bring them to a vet ASAP. If your kid had those symptoms, you would have brought them to a doctor immediately - right?

The longer you wait, the more you are going to pay.

do you have rat poison or neighbors have rat poison anywhere? is it possible? two dogs with sudden onset is putting my spidey sense at alarm. age of animals? how much blood in the feces?

Are their gums pale? (if you press on them do they blanch in color then return to a pink color quickly?).

I was going to say that, but don't the puppy shots cover parvo these days?

Yeah for the most part, unless the dogs were improperly vaccinated or are immunocompromised somehow. This has all the signs of parvo, but the OP didn't provide any info on these dogs. Hopefully they're at the vet now

When the dogs are out, are they a barking PITA to the neighbors? If so, one of them may have peanut buttered a piece of rat poison to offer them a treat.

Like others have said, both dogs at the same time, same symptoms----sounds like they got into something they shouldn't have.

As someone who has had one dog die and another almost die from being given rat poison, my blood boils every time I hear of a dog getting rat poison. It takes a low pos to do that.

OP keep us updated. I always pay extra attention to sick dog threads so I can be aware in case any of my dogs become ill. Hope your pups pull through.

UPDATE:

Took the pups to the vet. They took a fecal sample and found out they had eaten wild animal shite which can be toxic to dogs especially smaller ones, who knew. We have a bunch of raccoons that come into the dog pen area. I throw out seeds for birds and squirrels and the raccoons come in at night to eat as well. Both dogs are much better and they got some meds and special food to make them better.

Thanks for all the advice baws!
