ob mechanics: f150 ac issue

My '06 f150s ac vents aren't cycling when I turn the switch. To ne more specific the front facing airvents (the ones that blow air in your face) aren't opening. The floor vents and defroster vents work. Would this be a switch issue or is the vent stuck in the closed position?

Is it a manual or electric knob?

I would assume its an electric knob. I'm talking about the control switch on the dash. The manual doors on the individual vents are fine.

Could be your blend-door actuators gone out or the actual blend door(which is located in the AC plenum under your dash) is not opening properly.
Sounds more like your actuators though.

Search out Bthog on the OT. Everybody treats him like a big douche bag because he lied about something and got called out on it, but the dude knows his stuff about fords. I think he works in a service department for a dealership, or did for a long time.

A couple of other things to look at is the AC control head.
Depends if you have Automatic temperature control(ATC) or manual temperature control.
If you have ATC, you may have to replace the AC control head, very expensive part around $600.
If you have manual temp control you can replace the individual switches(3 of them). They are a lot cheaper.

Could be this, but in my experience even if you fix it it is likely to happen again.

For sure.
The dude gets ripped over there, but I had a question about my f150. Damn near everything he told me was word for word what my local service guy told me the next day when I took it in. Because I was one step ahead of him I was able to save some money by suggesting what needed to be done to fix the problem instead of replacing the whole system. Which would have also fixed the problem but would have been more expensive.

if it is 4x4 I know the problem.

If it's auto, (and if it's like my 2003) it's actually controlled by vacuum. There's a series of vacuum actuator valves inside the control head. These can be VERY CAREFULLY removed and EVEN MORE CAREFULLY taken apart. All you have to do is replace the o-rings inside the valves.
I did this a couple years ago. Turned a nearly $1000 job into $ZERO. The young dude at Car Quest didn't know how to bill out the o-rings and just gave them to me.
Here's a link to a forum with some pics of the 2003 version. I'd imagine it'd be very similar in a 2006.

P. S. It could also be a vacuum leak somewhere else in the truck. And it could be ANYWHERE! Pray to God that it's not a leak. Could take you forever to find a vacuum leak, IF you ever find it.

Swear to god my f250 when you put it in 4 wheel drive this happens goes to defrost vents

Could be it. If the o-rings in the valves are bad they won't hold vacuum in order to hold the blend doors open. The added vacuum pull due to the 4x4 actuator being on draws all the vacuum away and the a/c control valves can't hold it.

either actuator is bad or you have a vacuum leak. If actuator I think part and labor is under a 200. BTW your 4 wheeler drive probably isnt engaging if this is happening.

This truck isn't a 4wd.
If it's auto a/c then it's either a vacuum leak or the o-rings in the a/c head like I mentioned a few posts above.

there is a "flap" in the dash that opens/closes depending on your setting. apparently, it is open to the defrost and will not open to the vent.
